Default Report of Romans in Iberia

To start off my first report, i want to say i know that Carthage & Rome knew there was many gold and silver deposits in Spain, and so the fight for it was brutal, but in my campaign things were getting insane.

It takes 3 turns to sail an army across the Mediterranean (Rome - Emporie) and 4-5 across land. There is no road from Genoa - Massalia, so troop transportation is even harder.

Then once you get your invasion force in Iberia, you realize they have 5-6 full stacks of elite Carthage armies at your doorstep, and then the Gallecia make a secret pack with the Carthaginians (there was a Gallecia army & a Carthage army, but they decide to gang rape me instead of each other.) the situation wouldn't be to horrible is you could transport troops.

Ive wasted 4 full stacks of expensive roman armies, and to get one settlement, which was immediately besieged again, because no reinforcement could get there.

So to suggest something, maybe having ONE more roman army (1 gen, 6 cohorts, 4 triarii, 3 cav, 2 Auxiliary, and 4 skirmishers) or something to defend your territories, and then make a road from Genoa - Massalia, and make the AI in Iberia hate each other, so I don't get teamed up on. If you need pics, let me know, the next 3 full stack invasion should be any day now.

    Thank you,

You can also change your strategy. When I played as SPQR, I fortified my position in Emporiae, and let the Carthaginians fight it out with the Gallaeci. Then after quite some years of fighting in northern Italy and in Macedonian territories, I sent an invasion force to Carthage (the capital). I took the city, crippling their economy (as when you take the city of Carthage, you take the Carthaginian Treasury building). I fortified it so they couldn't take it back easily, and then I sent about 4 stacks in total to Iberia, which was about 70% Carthaginian, and very weak Gallaeci. Without money, a military force is weak, and that showed when I took all of Iberia without much trouble

Good idea! But the only problem in this game, is that the Carthaginans are actually a rival, quite shocking, at VH/VH. Its a nice challenge. I have spent 4 hours in Iberia fighting battles. I think I'm just going to focus on the millions of full stacks the Macedonians are sending in, then focus on Iberia, when the fronts calm down. I will take Carthage when i do a mass invasion in Africa. Thanks for the idea btw.

    No problem

Yea does that happen to you too? In my campaign the Macedonians kept sending armies to Dyrrhachium, and I had to destroy every single one of them, but they just kept coming. I'm wondering, maybe it's best to just give up Dyrrhachium and Emporiae when you start the campaign, and focus on Italy first. Carthage won't attack the Italian mainland, as they have enough to do in Iberia, and Macedonia also has other things to do, so maybe you can even get trade with them. Will also save you a lot of upkeep costs, which can be very useful at the start.

    Anyway, good luck with Carthage

Well, I lead a small invasion force into Segestica, and i get 6 Full stacks at Segestica ( no kidding) and 3 at Dyrrachium. I took out a of troops, but i lost both regions. But i got my revenge, took 3 leigons, and 7 half stacks. Had one epic 24 year war in Greece. I just have to remember the spend armies like hookers, quick and numerous.

Yes i just said that =P lolz

I have managed to fix the issue with the road from Genoa to Massalia. But I haven't uploaded the change because I don't want to scramble campaigns with all the map files I had to change.

Scipio's strategy of assaulting Carthage wasn't a bad one....and there's a recommendation if you need one to not play on VH/VH

ok, I restarted my campaign on H/H, and it is considerably more fun. Still can never beat hannibal the first time. Why cant you send in reinforcing armies? Gets a little frustrating.

In my Macedon campaign, Carthage is getting really hammered by both Roman's and Gallaeci. I'm 15 years into the campaign and Carthage has been driven out of Iberia by both factions. They're loosing the cities in the west of North Africa to the Gallaeci and the Roman's are constantly raiding Carthage itself from Sardinia and Sicily, so it looks pretty dire for them.

The battle with Hannibal is intended to be hard and a disaster. I have won it once. It would ahistorical to have it any other way.

hmm, i guess the third party, the Gallecia are the deciding factor.

And if you were ambushed, you don't have reinforcement.
