    Default Lack of Mods

Why is there a lack of mods covering the time frame, let's say 600-1000 AD? Lot's before, lot's after, but not many for this time frame. Is it because of lack of historical material/information to create a mod for this timeframe?

That time frame saw the rise of many new kingdoms. The east was quite alive, with the Sassanids, Byz and the Caliphate. The Franks in the West, and so on. But it seems that there is a real lack of knowledge about this era in general though.

it was a blunt joke. i reckon that the reason is a general lack of information. it was a time when started to derail. the loss of writing means that what we have comes from the narrow dogmatic view of the catholics from the few monasteries that weren't plundered. western european armies were utterly boring seeing as they consisted mostly of spearmen up till the re-rise of heavy cav, save for some archers and a few guys with swords. the world got so much dumber...

Basically it would be like playing the entire MTW2 campaign with Spear militia, peasant archers and scout cav.

    You're absolutely right.
For that matter, CA did cover this period with MTW: Viking Invasion. It was interesting, don't get me wrong, but it was also pretty... primitive. There were 34 units total, and of those 22 were totally unarmoured. It was a tough campaign, but mostly because everyone started broke and worked their way up to poor, and the combat system was closer to a riot than a battle. It was great for barbarian fans, but lacked the finesse of some of the other titles.

true but most stories about the time are horrifically mauled by religious nutjobs hence when the moors gave charlemagne an elephant to celebrate his epic win, the stories said it was a gigantic demon from the pits of hell. do you really want people to make a game based on that while they couldnt even make RTW realistic with the detailed information they had on the stuff

Contrary to the others I donīt think that a lack of knowledge is the reason.
I would assume itīs more a lack of interest. What I donīt understand personally because many interesting things happened between 476 and 1080.

But there are plans from the Ages of Darkness-team to produce a version III dealing with the time 634 to 750 or something like that and version IV from 800 onwards. But only after having finished the current version II dealing with 532 to 630.

There is quite a lot of information on that. Hell, we even have a Roman military manual that managed to survive till today that was written by one Roman Emperor.

We also have a number of sources that tell us what happened in the former western Roman provinces as well.

In fact, age of darkness II mod is covering this time period and the IB team has already covered this period as well.

I think this has to do with schools not focusing on this time period when they teach students ancient history, hence making more people uninterested in this time period.

Well seeing as both xerrop and ray agree with me i am just restating that i came up with it.
Either way if you cant see the joke in it then i guess you shouldn't bother commenting on it.

    Hi there.
There is an entire game covering that time period. It is called Medival Total War. And its expansions.
Medival 2, and the expansions too, covers pretty much that time.
