    Screen Shots from Norton

ok so SS1 click manage firewall

SS2 - under general settings make sure stelth blocked ports is disabled or off

SS3 - then go to traffic rules - and click add to creat new rule

SS4 - you want to allow connections for this rule

SS5 - next select connenections to and from other computers

SS6 - next you want to allow access to any computer

SS7 - next you want to allow TCP and UDP protocol and allow all types of communication

SS8 - next tick apply rule when packet is from NAT ( you can also click create event log entry if you like )

SS9 - next name the rule Napoleon ( or what ever you like)

next it goes back to SS3 but rule is at the bottom - highlight rule and click - Move up - until the rule is at the top - this rule will then override the other rules

SS10 - next under the advanced settings tab - click the automatic learn Ipv6 Nat Traffic to - ON

well thats about it - doing this doesnt appear to create too much risk for me as most of my security settings are fairly high and common sense needs to be applied when using the internet or email as most threats are in using them. My pc is also dedicated to just gaming so i have nothing on it that is important. So if you think this is a bit risky i suggest you dont do it.

    any questions let me know

Good thing I don't have norton... in fact I don't have any of those lame programs that keep blocking my games.

*i have windows 7, so these instructions are valid for vista and windows 7
for windows, to allow all ports access to a given program:
1.open up 'windows firewall with advanced security'
    2.go to 'inbound rules' section
3.sort by name, so all napoleon total war rules are grouped
4.right click on the first rule, and go 'properties'
5.under the 'protocols and ports' tab, select the combo box which by default says:'udp', under the heading 'protocol type'
6.from this combo box, select 'any'. at the bottom of the dialog box click apply.
7.repeat this for the rest of the entries under napoleon total war.
8.if necessary, repeat for entries under 'steam'

ss2/8/10 from terminators post i will try to address before my school finishes...so roughly 5 hrs and i will have checked stealth settings, and nat settings in windows.this will help avg users using avg free (avg basically doesnt affect the process unless you have the internet security suite, which manages the firewall instead of windows).i have no previous experience with avast, so im sorry for any uses getting the issue with that application

ok, here is the issue regarding nat solved through windows:
1.open up 'windows firewall with advanced security'
    2.go to 'inbound rules' section
3.sort by name, so all napoleon total war rules are grouped
4.right click on the first rule, and go 'properties'
5.under the 'advanced' tab, look for the 'edge traversal' section
6.from this combo box, select 'allow edge traversal', or if you wish 'defer to application'. at the bottom of the dialog box click apply.
7.repeat this for the rest of the entries under napoleon total war.
8.if necessary, repeat for entries under 'steam'

im going to look to see whether stealth settings are significant in windows firewall, but the above two changes fix NAT issues and port (UDP/TDP) issues.ill post a new thread with screenshots this evening after ive checked this all works fine/no security issue etc. unfortunately i cant use steam in online mode at school

have you ever experienced the problem?as far as i am aware, it is just as likely to affect vista and xp users, and 64-bit/32-bit users alike
