Once a cav unit makes contact with a unit of line they can no longer form square, flanking battles will now boil down to cavalry micro and troop placement. Shall we see the return of the widespread use of a meatshield?

The Spanish faction has been pimped beyond all recognition, it has SERIOUS appeal to people who prefer an unorthodox style of playing. They now have three units which are capable of deploying OUTSIDE of your deployment zone (right outside your enemies, should you wish).

There is a Guerilla variant of line, light and skirmisher - all of which can deploy outside of your zone.

    Thoughts? I love it.

It's really great. Spain have always been my fav faction. I went back to ETW just so I could use them fairly. And now, they are buffed alot. The square tweak is really nice, and the new fixes are very nice.

I mean no offense when I say this, but if you're bad enough that this is an issue to you, then you may want to quit the game tbh.

If the person you're against has his 3 guerillas units outside of your deployment, and he shoots you when the game starts, you charge him with cavalry. You may take some casualties, but he's just lost entire units. Take a meatshield vs. Spain, and you'll be fine.

I thought this was a error at first but i guess spain can depoy these units outside of deployment zone in multiplayer.
Why didnt they just give them M-16s or something.
Spain also seems to be seriously OP now
OP? How the hell are they OP? France is OP. Britain is OP. Prussia can be OP. Spain is not OP. All they got were lancers (which every other good nation has, bar Britain), a reskinning of the roster, and some new lights. If you're referring to the guerilla abilities to deploy anywhere, it shouldn't really be that big of a problem tbh.

It's only three units, it's hardly going to route you in thirty seconds.

it really just adds another tactical dimension to the game.used correctly, your guerillas can cause a minor disturbance, for example hiding in the trees on the hill you want to attack through.it just means that you dont see them travel there.

I think it does have the possibility to unbalance play. for instance, on Lakeside whoever brought Spain instantly can control the hill. I think these units would be great if they couldn't deploy outsides the opponents zones, but could say, walk hidden.

Ah ok I see what you're saying.

It does sort of act as a pain in the ass, but you should be able to rush with an entire army and wipe out his advance force.

Just played a match with Spain, interesting stuff, especially as I've never used them previously and I would certainly say they are not overpowered at ALL. The Guerrilla units give them some interesting opportunities, that if used right can be very effective especially in the deadly hands of Carswell or Sup with that, (as I discovered this morning.) But really, Carswell is right in that many of the other factions are most certainly OP but definatly not Spain. But the horrid accuracy ratings on the guerrilla units makes up for their deployment method, and you must be bloody careful in how you use Spain's units together if you want to avoid being routed very quickly. And as extreme micro-management is not my forte I think I'll stick with the more traditional factions.

I think I'll give these new units a shot and I'll do some live recordings with them. Watching all your units though before a cavalry charge is tough, even if you have insane micro. It's just tough to do your "own" moves and watch your opponents cavalry the entire time.

My cavalry attacks on players is more effective now

Amen to that, whilst cav typically played a harrassment role before and most people just took lancers, I think a LOT more people will be making use of heavy cav now that infantry can't 'super square' well after they have made contact.

I had a unit of Spanish Cuirassiers (3 chevrons) take out one foot guard and a ordinary British foot earlier, then once they were counter charged i engaged my lancers to deal with the enemy cav.

It really adds another layer of terror to cavalry.

Yeah, and my Internet connection is serviced from hell, which makes any type of micro a bloody mess to pull off.
