Haha. Man the Spanish are cool. You got a few regular army's in your region but you also have 2 little army's of guerrillas way out in French territories. Both the general's of those armys are guerrillas with crazy traits such as "guerrilla fighter" or "slaughtered family". Looking forward at getting deeper into this campaign!

Gord, you see like me, when you bought the DLC, you don't have the new units in custom battle, only in campaign?

the campaign works for me, when you buy it there is no downloading, it's only activation of things you have already downloaded. You have perhaps to close and re open steam.

successful ambush!! with one of my guerrilla forces I went and raided a manufactury. the nearest French stronghold sent out a few units to investigate and attacked my force. since they were all guerrilla units i could setup outside the deplyment zone. my guerrilla tactics worked perfectly!

Maybe I have to find better tactics but somehow my guerillia generals are already assassinated and the units after having no general, very useless in this tiny size....

edit: Normal Campaign Difficulty turn 7 3 of my Generals have been assassinated by the French

I thought that they had reduce agents' success rates in the new patch.

That sounds cool, could you explain how this works?

    • Does the enemy think a guerilla-army to be smaller than it actually is, thus sending out only a few unit rather than a bigger force?
    • What do you mean you can deplay outside of the deployment-zone? Can you surround your enemy even before the battle starts by deplaying your troops alongside his deployment zone?
    • Do guerilla-units have special abilities like "always hidden"?

Meant to post in this thread, but got sidetracked

I played about a dozen turns as Spanish (on VH campaign difficulty) last night. And, in my game, the French were getting steam-rolled, not only by me, but also by my Portuguese and British allies. At this rate, France will be down to 5 Peninsular provinces in no time...

Has anybody played longer? Does the French AI have some surprises up its sleeve?

    - Not sure
    - Before the battle, guerrilla units have a slightly larger deploying zone. Nothing too crazy like your example of surrounding the enemy, but it's still useful.
    - I don't think so. I know horses aren't hidden, and I'm pretty sure the infantry aren't "always hidden" either.

I'm 17 turns in on H/N and France has started to put up more of a resistance. Then again, they only have me to fight since the British and Portuguese aren't doing ANYTHING

Guerrilla units have their own deployment zone which basically covers most of the area that other normal units can't deploy in. However, the guerrilla deployment zone doesn't get too close to the enemy deployment zone during normal battles but generally you can position them almost any where on the map.

However, if you manage to ambush an enemy on the campaign map the guerilla deployment zone is much, much closer to the enemy. You can place one of your guerilla just inches within firing range. Heck, I've even manage to deploy a couple of my guerilla unit who had the enemy in their sights from the get go. When you click "Start Battle" they immediately started firing. And then I attacked with straight away with my cavalry. The battle was over in a minute or two. That's what I call a proper ambush!

I was expecting some more classic portrayal of the Spanish Line infantry.
Read a napoleonic first hand account of a Hessian serving under the french flag

I wonder if you can recruit more of those guerrila generals. I had one of mine bite the bullet. Otherwise it looks like you can recruite the normal general bodyguards. I don't want that though.

Also, I noticed church schools have replaced universities as the Spanish. Gentleman scholors have been replaced by preists, it seems. However, I don't beleive preists can increase your research time. Doesn't look that way, anyways.

A paucity of rebel leaders is certainly not my problem. I've cobbled together a full stack of rebels now threatening the French regions north of the Pyranees, and it has 7 leaders amongst the 20 units.
