    Default characters names

Hi, Im using the darth mod 1.4, and it is really good but there is something that bothers me, that It changes some names and pictures to the generals, so, I went to the descr_strat and there I change the names, when I play when I click my generals and agents the name is changed, but they dont appear In the family tree, did I miss something???

the second is, how I change the pictures of my generals???

and third, this mod makes that all christian factions go to war with muslim nations from the beggining, every turn it drops the relations until it is abysmal, how can I change that???

    note: first question solved.

Firstly the new name should exist in the descr_names.txt and if u put a new name in the descr_strat for a family member then also edit family member list at the end of faction summary in the descr_strat.txt
the second is, how I change the pictures of my generals???
    See this here.
and third, this mod makes that all christian factions go to war with muslim nations from the beginning, every turn it drops the relations until it is abysmal, how can I change that???
You have to edit the descr_campaign_ai_db.xml file which i know is not easy and requires a lot of time to understand.
    Hope this helps.

I just forgot another one, in the mod, the generals , captains , agents bla bla bla had ridiculous movement points, Ok so I went to descr_characters and reduce the starting_action_points from 160 to 80 and the generals and captains now had less momevement points but the change didnt affect agents, the merchants can easily travel trought europe in a few turns, once playing as egipt at turn 5 I see a danish merchant trading slaves in thr far south of the map
This is also in the descr_characters file, the entries for agents are below those for generals and captains.

I don't recall ever having seen one but as Ishan says it is complicated and hard to understand. Do you know if there are many other changes to this file? If this is all then you could copy a vanilla file over.

Der matt is right +rep to you matt.
It's better you stick with the default vanilla file but beware as in decsr_strat.txt under every faction there is a line like for france
    ai_label catholic
Now SS uses a different kind of advance AI i think it was written by Lusted a very talented guy with immense scripting knowledge.
So if the labels in your SS's descr_strat differs then change it to the labels to the vanilla ones.

    @Steven the conqueror
It's out there i once came across it when i wanted to learn it. you need to search it. It's there for sure.

    @Der Matt
I know that u are working on a campaign for the KCGM mod and i wish u all the best. But about the descr_campaign_ai_db.xml file it's labels and those are refered by the descr_strat.txt file which determines how a faction behaves. So if u wanna make your campaign then should get into this stuff.
Like by def the vanilla has 2 AI labels i think default and catholic. So you could create new AI label for every faction. This would make the campaign a lot more exciting.

I think he's asking about Darthmod not SS

I do know how to mod descr_campaign_ai_db.xml and I am planning to use this as part of what I'm doing. At the minute its a Britannia campaign I'm working on so I was going to have one AI for england, another AI for the other factions, and then another that I will script so that if the player gets so they are dominating the map, the AI for the AI factions is switched to one that prioritises peace amongst themselves and war against the player. I am also going to add Lusteds campaign AI as well.

If you have any other ideas for campaign AI let me know, I'm all ears

    Thanks

Is it true that if a name is repeated several times in the descr_names.txt file (for a certain faction) it will show up more frequently during a game?
    Tis but a scratch.

That is a possibility as names are chosen randomly from this list for new characters. If you had only one name in descr_names, everyone would be named the same. So I think you can consider your assumption to be correct.

I am interesting to change and edit new names to a faction in Medieval Total War 2 (Stainless Steel version 6.0). I hope you a lot (the ones who made it) don't have any problems with it.

Before I start making the changes I need your help.

What files do I need to edit?

Is there minimum and maximum amount of names?

Is there anything I should know (please assume I don't know anything about it)

For King & Country - Crown of English Monarch
Command Your Army - English Knights

Not sure if there is tutorial, but it is relatively simple. If it is for M2TW all you need is two files:

    data\descr_names.txt
    data\text\names.txt

For a little help, get this gadget: Creating a World – Name Converter

The first file will define the names used by the various factions - meaning only that faction will use those names. It is split into three parts per faction, with the faction name as header:
    faction: papal_states

    characters
    Abbate
    Accattus
    Aczo

    surnames
    Accorsi
    Alberti
    Albizi

    women
    Adelasia
    Aiguana
Names listed under characters are the male first names. The surnames is for the family surnames, women is for female first names.

    Rules to follow:
    1. Names have to be one word - meaning a double name like Franz Ferdinand has to be joined by an underscore:
    Franz_Ferdinand
    2. No special characters, only the basic alphabet and numbers

The second file is the fun part. This is where all the names are entered again (once per name is enough) and get allocated the name in the way that you want it to be displayed. Example again with
    Franz_Ferdinand:

    {
    Franz_Ferdinand}Franz Ferdinand

The part in the curly brackets has to agree with the entry in the first file (descr_names), the part on the right can be anything your heart desires and has no restrictions with regards to special characters.

If you now open my little gadget you will see a spreadsheet with instructions on how to convert the simple entry from descr_names.txt into the entry needed in names.txt. The entry for the look_up file is only used for RTW, you can ignore it.

Note for use of names: when entering names in descr_strat or the script, you will have to use the spelling as they are in the curly brackets (descr_names.txt)

There is no known limit to names.

I am going to edit Kingdom of Jerusalem (names). This is will take me a long time because some factions have the same name and I do not want to delete the names from names.txt.

    Any points for me?

It doesn't really matter if a name has been entered several times in data\text\names. I am talking about the part in the curly brackets. The game will only use the first instance. Example:
    {Fritz}Fritz
    {Fritz}Otto
Here the name displayed in the game will always be Fritz, never Otto.

I don't mind doing names (the long way), but thanks for the tips. I found out the French and kingdom of Jerusalem have almost the same name. When I go in names.txt I will know what names I can edit and delete from the game.

P.S I have made a backup copy of the original files just in case if it goes wrong.
