Default Which type of government would you prefer to live under?

    some quick definitions:

Socialistic: The economic system where the government controls major industry and the means of production but there is still an ability to own your own business. This is characterized with a large welfare system.

Capitalistic: The economic system where all business are free, but subject to some degree of regulation. This is characterized by a small to medium sized welfare system.

Laissez Faire: An economic system where the government stays out of the economy, with no welfare system.

Communist will not be included because it has never been seen, and is nearly impossible to use with humans.

Republic: The idea that people will elect officials to run the government for them for a certain length of time.

Democracy: The idea that people will vote on every measure.

Oligarchy: The idea that a certain class will control the government.

Dictatorship: The idea where one man will run the government, this includes show democracies like Saddam's Iraq.

Absolute Monarchy: The idea where one man will run the government based on his blood line. Includes enlightened monarchy.

Elected Monarchy: The idea where one man will run the government based on his blood line, but the person chosen from the bloodline will be elected.

Constitutional Monarchy: The idea where a monarch will rule a country, but his powers will be limited by a parliament.

I think I got every type of government here. Choose one economic system and one one governmental system.

I prefer to live in a Capitilistic Republic.

Democracy. Although National-Socialism looks tempting too.

Capitalist, I guess, because socialist economic system didn't work much in Warsaw Pact countries.

I'm not entirely sure you won't be challenged on some of those definitions. That aside, and in the spirit of playing along, I will choose Capitalist Republic as well. But then, most of you probably figured that out by now, anyway.

I chose the definitions so we're all talking about the same thing, and two people won't be arguing against each other for the same type of government.

    Economoc system:
Socialistic, but not as desribed above (your definition sounds more like communism, Farnan).
In a (modern) socialistic economy the government doesn't control industries, but it controls education and provides economic stability.

    Political system:
Democratic Technocracy (I think Technocracy should be added because it's rather popular amongs forum users)

A "democracy" would be a mess. Too hard to prevent cheating. And having to personally vote about everything would be a pain. There is also a greater risk of a "Tyranny of the Majority".

By the way guys... if the U.S. were a democracy, there would be no "gay marriage" or even "gay unions". Just a little factiod.

Erik, according to your definition of socialism, the U.S. is socialist

No cause for such alarm. There are many ways for you to die - I'm just one of them.

That's why we Euros invented the representative democracy.

Yes, the US is to some degree socialist.
Examples or pure communism and pure capitalism are very hard to find, socialism is everything in between and by far the most common system.
But there are of course many degrees of socialism.

Personally....Laissez Faire/Oligarchy combination, no government interfering in business, and no business interfering in government.

I am using the official socialist definition, if you want the type of socialism Erik described just say something to the effect: in between socialism and capitalism. In communism, everyone owns everything.

Technocracy is where experts rule the government, correct? Well that would fit the definition of an Oligarchy.

Not realy because in a Technocracy people are selected from the masses (besed on their intellect and achievements), and if I am not mistaking in an Oligarchy it's always very hard for a commoner to get into the ruling group, even with the right qualifications and/or popular support.

Socialistic. Sweden is ruled by Socialists, and we're on the top of richest nations. Hospitals and schools are owned by the state, and no one has to pay for it, as in the US for example.

    Social-democracy...

But your definitions are not really what the terms really mean.

    Like republic, democracy for example.

Communist will not be included because it has never been seen, and is nearly impossible to use with humans.
That comment could be valid to every political and economical systems.

He labled it an 'economic system' Rush. I played along and voted Capitalist Republic myself.

Laissez Faire Republic all the way.

And how has communism not been applied?

Socialistic Republic. Yeah, I would want to live in a country where school is free, and hospitals are free.
