Problems Using RTW 1.5 exe.

Hey all,

I've been trying out the RTRPE mod over the last week or so, but after reading more about ExRM I decided to give it a try. I have to say, it looks excellent!

I've had a few problems with installing it though. As the thread title says, I'm using the RWT 1.5 exe as I don't have BI. I installed both patches (1.3 and 1.5) over a clean install of RTW, downloaded the ExRM installer and ran that, as well as the 3.5.3c hotfix. I then deleted all instances of 'can_swim' from the export_descr_unit.txt file as instructed in the sticky (I couldn't find any instances of 'schiltrom' for some reason) and loaded up the game.

Custom battles have worked perfectly so far, but I'm experiencing the same problems as this poster: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...51#post6456551 - namely not being able to start a campaign (it just boots me to the single player menu whenver I try to click the little arrow) and the...

'Script Error in ExRm/data/world/maps/base/descr_regions.txt, at line 226, column five
Couldnt find settlement name 'Apameia'

...thing whenever I exit the game.

I've ran the campaign map reset in the ExRM folder to see if that did anything, but nope.

Any help would be most appreciated.

A big thanks to everybody who's worked on the mod too; I could never go back to vanilla.

My first point of call would be to try making the coding amendments mentioned in this stickied thread, providing some instructions on how to run ExRM on RTW 1.5 or on Alex.exe.

Make sure you're using the modswitch version on RTR Platinum too, you should have a separate folder inside you RTW folder called RTR Platinum or similar. Any modswitch modification will only run off a vanilla installation, as far as I know.

Someone with a little more technical knowledge than me will be able to provide further assistance.

I really do recommend that you pick up a copy of BI though, as the next version on ExRM will be using BI features so it will be uncompatible with the RTW 1.5 engine.

I've double checked the export_descr_units.txt file for any instances of can_swim, shield_wall and schiltrom and have gotten rid of a few shield_walls left lying around, but that didn't seem to do the trick. There's definitely no can_swims left and, but I still can't seem to locate any schiltroms.

I do have the RTRPE mod-switch version in a folder called RTRPE inside the main RTW folder.

Also, I will get around to getting a copy of BI eventually.

That error looks familiar. I think you may have installed one of the patches over the basic game files.

Hmm, and how would I go about solving this? Would I need to install the RTW again, then the patches, and then the mod? Also, how would I avoid doing that again when installing the patches?

I'd suggest deleting the ExRM folder you see inside your RTW directory and trying launching RTW and RTRPE. This will assess whether it was just a problem with the ExRM install, or if something's gone wrong further down the line, i.e. having replaced one of the RTW data files with the ExRM patch.

If it's a problem with RTW then you'll need to reinstall RTW, patch it up to the right level, and attempt to install ExRM again. I would suggest testing at every single stage, just to make it easier to track where any problems might have occurred. Make sure you can get ExRM to work without installing the latest hotfix first. It's critical to test at this stage.

Then download the hotfix (btw Quinn - it may be helpful to have something on the menu screen or somewhere that tells you at a glance which version you are using?). What I did to ensure the hotfix installed correctly was to drag and drop the patch into the ExRM folder, allowing it to overwrite any files it asks about.

Now test it.

If it works then we're all sorted and I correctly remembered how I installed the hotfix - I messed it up a few times myself.

I can't really add much to what C.A. said.

That's a good idea about the menu. I try to do that for the numbered releases, but with hotfixes I just blow through them so quickly I forget. Remember how I got up to 'g' on one release? I'll be more assiduous about that in the future.

I can't remember which version it was, but yeah that was crazy! Great for rooting out all the little bugs and kinks though

Hi, im having the exact same problem. I installed the extended realism via Bladerunners no nonsense installer, iv deleted all the shield wall and ect in that file. And have tested rtw vannilla which still works, so does platinum. so I was wondering does the no nonsense installer come with the hot fix? And if it doesnt were can i download it?

The no-nonsense doesn't have the latest hotfix built into it, mainly because they're to fix all the little things that crop up from feedback we recieve. For example the latest hotfix was adding a few tweaks to the Sarmatians as their stats were a little unbalanced. The 3.5.3c hotfix can be downloaded here.

As to why you can't get ExRM to work whilst vanilla and Platinum still run puzzles me somewhat. Have you tried all of the steps given in this thread?

I deleted the ExRM folder then tested rome tw and platinum and they both worked. So i presume somethings wrong with the install for some reason or another. Before i did this i also applied the hot fix and still no Luck

Oh and I suppose this is worth mentioning on the faction selection screen if I select the Germans it returns to the desktop even without pressing the arrow, well as all the other ones I select then press the arrow and it returns to the previous screen.

That's bizarre. That kind of error really usually comes from a bad installation. I recommend re-downloading the installer and the hotfix and trying again.
