    Default Oblivion Mod List

    This will be the thread where I and everyone else will recommend mods and utilities to make the best gaming experience in Oblivion. And where we ask questions and advices about the same locations, comparabilities, ect...

    Here is the list with links of the mods that I recommend:

    P.S. Most of the links are from TESnexus so you will need to create an account there to download, it's free.

    Race mod:

    Oblivion race balancing project.

    Descriptions: Adds some cool races in the game and reworks the abilities of the current ones, very balanced mod no Uber races. Makes each race unique in it's own way and NPC's and enemies get the same abilities.

    Magic:

    LAME (Less annoying magic experience) mod.

    Desc:

    Well personally I don't like Midas magic mod because they are all more or less god spells. This mod reworks some vanilla spells and adds a lot more, gives a great reworked magic system and redoes some visual effects, simply perfect IMHO.

    Overhauls (Creatures, new weapons, armor...)

    Francescos leveled creatures items mod with Martigen's Monster Mod.

    Desc: They add a load of new monsters (Giants, spiders, barbarians, liches...), weapons (scimitars, orc weapons, galives, katanas...) and armors (most impressive collection you have ever seen.) and a lot lot more to the game, crafting, new alchemy, forging.... Just see for your self.

    Vampirism Overhaul.

    Desc: The best there is for the children of the night, 8 stages of vampirism and you don't starve to get there great spells very balanced.

    I get crashes to the desktop every now and then and every time I exit the game I get an error message.

    So please does anyone have nay advice how to prevent these maybe some changes to the load order? Please.

    I plan on buying Oblivion for the pc. I really need to know some good mods for oblivion. I mostly want mods that overhaul the game add alot of stuff or change the game completely. like added new dungeons town or citys ( i think you can add that?) new weapons and armor and stuff. any good mods that can fit those descriptions?

    Open Better Cities, adds the cities to the worldspace without loading and keeps the changes that Better Cities makes.
    MMM and Frans monster mods, adds a lot of stuff and tweaks, the world doesn't revolve around you anymore.

    I have a 9600 GT so I personally didn't download any graphic mods, but if you have a good graphic card, gets Qarl's texture pack which makes everything sharp and crisp, almost too much in my eyes (literally) so that one is down to personal preference. Or you could just screw that and go on tweakguides for ini. file tweaks which cut out the gfx mods, still make your game look good without the demonic sharpness that bleeds your eyes and adds performance into the bargain.
    TESnexus.com has most of the best mods, just look on most endorsed files, non-adult unless you want to look at an interesting array of reptilian crotches and octagon arses. Also you need Oblivion Mod Manager, OBSE and BOSS to make sure you don't get crashes and some mods require OBSE, tesnexus for more info, explains it a lot better than I could.
    Damn I feel like a failed sales representative coming out with all this...

    The bare basics would be the Unofficial Oblivion Patch, Unofficial Oblivion Mods Patch, Unofficial Shivering Isles Patch , and Unofficial Oblivion Patch Supplemental. You may also want the Oblivion Mod Manager utility so you can see your modlist, Wrye Bash to generate a bashed patch which is REQUIRED if you want to go the FCOM route, OBSE which is require for many mods, Oblivion Stutter Remover to eliminate microstutter and many other FPS problems you will find when you start really installing mods, Streamline which can be customized to run with OSR (See Master Necromancers first thread link), and Windom Earles Crash Prevention System to eliminate some ordinary CTDS that come with Oblivion sometimes. BOSS and BOSS Master List Manager are two extraordinary utilities which will automatically setup your load order for you most of the time.

    I am thinking of downloading FCOM, but do i need any unoffical patches to play it, and is it just like Oblivion except harder, or does it has a way bigger map and is way harder?

    oh btw i downloaded the oblivion mod manager, do i need the BOSS thing for FCOM?

    BOSS sorts your load order for you in mod manager so you don't get conflicts between mods. As a rule the bigger mods load last. It also tells you about patches etc. No idea how it does it, but it's a godsend. Also if you're planning on installing a lot of mods, especially gfx mods, you need performance mods like those listed above. Oblivion will chew your PC up otherwise.

    For BOSS, dl it, to run it click the .bat file after extracting it to your /Oblivion/Data directory (it has a cog as the symbol on it) It's not a mod as such, it just runs and sorts your load order after you've installed all you want to.

    Don't really need a guide I don't think.

    Ok i downloaded it what do i do with it? that link you gave me doesn't really have a step-by-step guide to installing it, its more of an FAQ. This seems exteremly complicated to install.

    Yeah it is, I really shouldn't try to give you too much on FCOM as I bypassed it(Just went for 2 of the mods in it out of the 4 available).

    This is the main thread and as it says, everything you need is in there, I would recommend you take a look, FCOM is a damn hassle, it's not hard to install, just extremely tedious and fiddly. Sorry I can't be of more help. For me the hassle outweighed the fun I would get if/when it finally worked.

    I don't know its name (unfortunately) but I strongly recommend you a mod that disables quest arrows on your compass. In unmoded game you have a GPS (literally!) - a small arrow at your compass points exactly at person/place where you have to go and while it may be useful it ruins the game because then all gameplay can be described "go when arrow shows, kill everyone, go to the next location your arrow shows, kill eveyone, go to the next location your arrow shows etc." It is much more fun when you have to find a place/person or solve the riddle yourself.
