    Default What will happen?

Maybe this is too early but... What exactly is going to happen to us beta testers once the mod is released? Will we delete our beta versions and re download the mod in a more compressed version? Or will we simply be updated by tortoise to the final version?

Also will there always be a separate shortcut for the Rome campaign? As a steam user i wouldn't be able to play as Rome if it was left so.

I don't mean to be pushy or ask to many questions so sorry if it seems that way...

    Anyway thanks in advance.

to answer 1 of your questions i know some of the final save breaking stuff is going to be included in the launcher so that means yes you will have to redownload this mod, to steam i have no clue. Also for future reference for questions such as this use the "beta tester queries here" thread

The SVN version of RS2 will most likely be updated with all the final changes....the last of which will be the re-hiding of a bunch of hidden traits that people don't need to see. The only reason I haven't done it is because doing so will scramble all the traits in existing campaigns and likely cause CTD's. But at the very end, I will make all the changes.

It would probably be a nice idea to download the 'release' version, but not absolutely necessary. I will want a few people to do so so that we can do a quick check and make sure it works properly...but beyond that, it should be the same as the SVN version.

Also, I don't know what is meant by a 'separate shortcut' for the Roman campaign.....as far as I know, there is only the Launcher that will be used. I will however update the batch files I made to launch various campaigns because there are a few people for whom the Launcher doesn't work right.

I meant having to select play_test to play the Romans. Whatever you changed about playing the Romans makes it impossible to play as them for us steam users.

What we need (steam users) is to be able to simply start the game... go to start campaign... and have all the factions there to pick from.

We need to launch through the steam engine, thus making it impossible to even use the launcher.

    Thanks - c_kais3r

Hmmm...that's a problem. But it's Steam's problem, unfortunately. RS2 just wasn't built with ASteam in mind....in fact, I don't know if RTW was even on Steam at the time we started.

    @dvk901

I understand RS II was not designed to be compatible with steam. However, there are quite a few RS players who do use steam.

As steam players all we need to get this to work is the same configuration as RS1.6a had... We need to be able to select which faction we want to start a campaign with IN GAME, not from the launcher. The fact that we have to launch through steam prevents us from using the launcher the team has created.

So what I would like to know is: Will we be able to play Rome without selecting the option in the launcher in the final version of the mod?

Thank you for your time and patience

How would you normally play a mod foldered game using Steam?

Presumably it's just about having a set of shortcuts with the right targets in...

    1) Go into your RS2 Beta folder and select the .exe file you will be using (RTW.exe, BI.exe or Alex.exe).

    2) Right click and select "Create Shortcut"

    3) Right click the shorcut you've just created and select "Properties"

    4) Go to the "Target" line - it will look something like: "C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\RS2 BETA\RomeTW.exe" or wherever you've put your BETA folder

    5) Add these after the quotes: -mod: then the name of whichever modfolder you want to use) -show_err -movie_cam -nm e.g. -mod: Play_Rome -show_err -movie_cam -nm

That should work fine. You will then need to manually copy across the relevant DMB and desc_character.txt files from their folders within the IMPORTANT STUFF folder if you want to change these.....If you're want sprites at a further distance, you'll need to go into /data/_IMPORTANT_STUFF/High_res_DMB/ then copy the descr_model_battle.txt files from /default into the main /data folder of your Beta and (assuming you want to play as Rome) from the /roman folder into /Play_Rome/data.

We probably ought to set up some easy batch files to make this copying process easier.

Ah tone great solution. I didn't think about each of those folders being a separate mod folder (duh)

    Thank you +rep!
