    Default Need Help Installing

I have vista, and have tried installing EB like 5 times. The first time it worked for like 5 turns actually, and then I started getting CDTs. Every install after that it's always had CDTs soon after starting a campaign or battle. What am I doing wrong? I went back and reinstalled rome outside of program files, and I applied all the permanent fix things for 1.2.

    - Do I HAVE to make a copy of my original RTW in which to install EB, or can I just use the original? I don't care if I can't use other mods or something.

    - I have Rome Gold edition, it comes patched to 1.5 right?

    - Somewhere someone said to possibly not install BI along with normal Rome to avoid problems, is this a good idea because Rome Gold makes you install everything....

    - Also apparently there are supposed to be movies when you start a campaign, I have yet to see one. I saw one starting movie in my last install when I tried to play as the Greek faction that's green (lead by Pyrros or whatever) but that's it.

    Any help greatly appreciated

    Hello,

How to install EB might help you in this case.
If you have vista, you will have to run the installer with administrator-rights, and furthermore you should install it outside Program Files.
If EB starts, and you receive a in-game CTD, than the installation should be right.

Install RTW (outside the Program Files)
install EB 1.1 into the RTW folder
the 1.2 patch goes exactly in the same folder as 1.1
    apply the fixes

this should give you a working build.

Do I HAVE to make a copy of my original RTW in which to install EB, or can I just use the original? I don't care if I can't use other mods or something.
If there are no other mods installed, then no problem

    Right.

That doesn't matter, if you want to play with BI/ALEX, look into the submods section of this forum.

Only some factions have real intros, so no bug.

Yeah I'm administrator because it's my laptop and I'm the only one who uses it, but just to be sure it doesn't matter where I install it, as long as it's not program files? Last time I created a little section of my C: just for Rome and mods.

what about things like recruitment viewer which is asks me to install, does it matter where those go? Honestly I'm no newbie to mods it just seems Rome ones are so much harder to deal with lol

Wait I need a submod to make EB work properly in the presence of BI? I don't want BI, but I don't have a choice. I even tried in the last install to manually move all BI stuff out of the folder that contains all the Rome info so it would be only original Rome. kinda ghetto....

Oh that's interesting, out of curiousity is it hard to edit recordings of playing sessions or something? You'd think modders would add videos throughout campaigns. btw thanks for the help, I know I'm not so useful to others on the forum

A folder like C:\Games will prevent problems with the write protection of Vista/Win7

The Recruitment Viewer, the EB Documentation and the Trivial Script are optional features provided by the team. You can install them either in your RTW folder, but not inside the EB folder, or just into the Program Files, that works fine.

No, you don't need a submod to play EB if you also have BI/ALEX installed. Those exes provide some extra features, so some fans created mods to be able to play with them. This is no must, sorry for being unclear in my formulation.

If you play a custom or multiplayer battle you have the option to save the replay, this file is editable. I'm not accustomed to this area, so search the forum or on google about this topic.

Be sure to read the EB FAQ, it covers most other question you will come across!

Thanks dude, btw I finally tried again and everything seems to be working!!!! During a few installs I also tried to install that new quotes thing that has it's own sticky thread, and I honestly think that was breaking it, I opted out this time.
