Default Solution for Rome's disparate factions.

I was thinking, how it's odd that Rome's basicly three full factions under one city faction, and I thought it'd be cool if rather than having three factions, you control a part of it depending on who you pick, and as your popularity goes up, you're entrusted with more of it, and the eventual civil wars would be resolveable by killing key family members or taking key cities rather than essentially having to wage war against a whole empire which is unrealistic in civil war terms. Or even achieving full control peacefully with domination of the senate offices etc.

I have heard RTW2 is off of the cards, but is this sort of thing possible in mod terms? And what are your thoughts on this idea?

Im not really sure what youre saying there. In vanilla, there are three base Roman factions, and a 'super' faction. There is a civil war that breaks out when your popularity with the plebes reaches a certain level, which is raised by conquering cities and expanding the borders of Roma. Typically, when you have reached that point, the other base factions have built such an empire that the civil war is on an epic scale.

While you may not think this realistic, Caesar and Pompey were the leaders in the Roman civil war that spanned most of the empire east of Rome, and even spread to Egypt.
Now, just imagine that there were three 'corporate' powers in this same empire, and that these powers began to get very greedy. This is a volatile combo, and would likely lead to confrontation.

Now give those powers massive armies of the most advanced troops of the time, and a few commanders with a chip on their shoulders.

He means something a bit different. What he wants to know is if there's a way to mod the game so that there is one Roman faction, but the player only controls parts of it based on his popularity. So say the Romans have 12 territories, and he's got ... 20% Popularity. He gets a fifth of the territory, more or less, to run, so 2 territories. If he had 50% popularity, he'd have 6 territories. Eventually the 'Civil Wars' would kick in, possibly with Religion-like (from BI) secondary statistics determining which territories would revert to which 'family' within Rome, and being able to win the CW by taking strategic cities or wiping out a given bloodline.

I do not believe it's possible to make it that way. You'd have to build a whole new game.
I beat back their first attack with ease. Properly employed, E's can be very deadly, deadlier even than P's and Z's, though they're not as lethal as Paula Abdul or Right Said Fred.

Yeah, that's essentially what I meant. As they're developing Shogun II I doubt RTW2 would ever see the light of day, which is a shame.

Maybe, if not entrusted with RTWII, somebody would take your advice and create a mod for the current RTW. It actually sounds a bit more realistic than the 3 houses and the superior SPQR, as the houses were part of the SPQR, and even the houses didn't existed quite as RTW is made. Not really historicly accurate is RTW, but maybe if you're a modder you should try to think of how to create this.

the julii, scipii, and brutii were all real patritian with a lot of power but they did not have nearly as much as shown in the game, the three different factions were created to add diversity to the roman campaign and also to make it easier by not having to expand everywhere
