There's no Aetius' statue in Rome
yes there is, it was erected in 439 by the seneate and is mentioned in one of merobaudes pangyrics
Fact's been erected 2000 years ago doesnt mean it is still present. There's no Aetius statue in any Roman forum i know

it looks more like a consular diptych to me...

Optio, Legio I Latina
that is a bas relief
yeah, maybye statue is an incorrect translation...
I think that too, there's no statue of Flavius Aetius in Rome
"On his return to Italy, he was honoured by a statue erected by the Senate and the People of Rome by order of the Emperor; this was probably the occasion for the panegyric written by Merobaudes.["
This is from Wikipedia, but the little blue bracket at the end is the source. The statue still exists, but probably only the base of it is left. I'm an expert on the subject of Aetius and I know exactly what im talking about. There is one, I'm just trying to find it or it's remains. I think i've at most narrowed it down to trajan's forum, where merobaudes' is located. The link doesn't work so here's the source

I already knew that story but no remains of statues about Aetius in Rome.. or it's plausible it was stolen or buried or used to recycle material as it was usual in medieval times
I say it may have been destroyed by the vandals
May be as not... we should find some Roman account around V-VI-VII century describing what remained of original Trajan forum at that time.. but it is not said been destroyed by Barbarians.. for example we have some chronicles telling us that Colosseum was still majorly undamaged, external ring included + marbles + statues + roof around the year 1000 AD, even if around that period or few decades before, Rome started to be a marble cave. Phenomenom increased massively in late medieval era when Rome had already the fame of ubi specialiter marmoreorum lapidum copia reperitur, with Pope promoting artists of the time as Praefectus marmorum et lapidum (see Raphael for example), with the purpose of buying, selling, catalogueing, moving etc.. marbles for every part of ancient Rome still standing, moving pieces from there to St Peter's construction site etc. etc
... but i m just making hypothesis.. who knows
That is very likely, that it was moved for all we know it could be under a landfill in rome!!! What a horrible way to go...
