I thought an assassin was against political targets, a hitman was against any average person.

No, an assassin is simply a paid killer. Hitman is slang, basically.

Assassin is the romantic version. Bit like freedom fighter vs. terrorist!

As long as the horny beast does judges you sin moderatelly he shall not devour your entrails.

A little bit of reflection on the appointment of Lord Sidus Preclarum:

"And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God; and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already it is in the world." (I John 4:3):

"Dan shall be a serpent by the way, an adder in the path, that biteth the horse heels so that his rider shall fall backward" (Genesis 49:17).

"the mind is its own place, and in itself can make a heav'n of hell, a hell of heav'n." Milton, Paradise LostBook 1, lines 254-5

Sort of correct. But a Hitman is going to take out anyone who gets in the way of the mission. He would let's say walk into a busy cafe, shoot the target, and then rake anyone who made a move. While an Assasin would hide up on a building and kill you from a mile away.
