    Default Kin-Strife Custom Campaign Idea/Pre-Project

I enjoyed TATW, but somehow it didn't captivate me as well as SS did and I really think it was because of the lack of variety and the campaign, like to me it was all battle it out, no role-playing etc...
But I'm yet to use any submods so once I get my PC back that might change but I recently came up with an idea. Throughout the Third Age, the realms of Middle Earth were involved in many conflicts and often these conflicts took up entire time periods throughout the age.
Three certain time periods caught my eye.
The War of the Dwarves and Orcs from 2793-99, the war between Arnor and Angmar from 1356-1974 and the Kin Strife in Gondor from 1432-1446 (is that right? I don't have the book with me at the moment).
Now, the first one seemed to boring to me, may as well just horde the Dwarves and make OOTMM and make a sub-section of the map.
The second was already being done and honestly, they're doing a better job then I could.
Now the last one is what I really want to do. The Kin Strife in Gondor.

For those who don't know what the Kin Strife was, it was a disastrous period in Gondor's history where the nation virtually teared itself apart from the inside. When King Valacar died in 1432, he left his son, Eldacar as his successor for the throne. Only problem was, Eldacar was of mixed blood, being half Dunedain and half Northmen. Castimir, a distant cousin of Eldacar, descended from Hyarmendacil II, along with a large part of the Gondorian populace living in the southern regions like Dol Amroth, Belfalas and Anfalas revolted believing that the mixed blood would ruin the line of Kings. Eldacar was trapped in Osgilliath by Castimir's forces and the after a lengthy siege from 1432-1437, Castimir's mob burned the city and lost the palantir in the Anduin. Valacar and many of his followers escaped, but his elder son, Ornendil, was captured and executed by Castimir. Castimir proved to be a cruel, but strong King in a sense. He rebuilt the Navy and built many great ports along the coast. But, he moved the capital of Gondor to Pelagir and practically left the provinces of Ithillien, Anorien and Calenardhon to rot. 10 years later, to the relief of the northern populace, Eldacar returned with an army of Northmen to overthrow Castimir, along with many soldiers from Northern Gondor. In 1447, Eldacar met Castimir at the Crossings of Erui and there a large battle ensued for the Kingship of Gondor. However, Eldacar slew Castimir in single combat and his army was put to rout, retreating towards Pelagir. Eldacar pursued them and laid siege to Pelagir, just as Castimir had done to Osgilliath ten years before. By 1448, Eldacar broke into the city, but Castimir's sons, along with a large part of the Navy, escaped to Umbar and seized it in the name of the Corsairs. Thus, Gondor not only earnt a new enemy, but also fell victim to a catastrophic civil war and many of the Dunedain were killed.

The Kin Strife was largely seen as the end of Gondor's golden age which had started in the 9th century and had continued well into the 15th before the death of Valacar. Eldacar lived to be 238 years old so Castimir's gesture was futile and only hastened Gondor's slow decline. The Kin Strife was a Civil war, just like the Civil War in Arnor 600 years earlier. Gondor didn't split into a swarm of small successor states, but rather was severely weakened and started to decline. Castimir's following consisted of Anfalas, Belfalas, Dol Amroth, Lebinnin, Pelagir, Morthond etc... whereas Eldacar consisted of Minas Anor, Minas Ithil, Osgilliath, Ithillien, Anorien, Calenardhon etc, basically dividing Gondor into two main factions. Now, I have tried to take this to a new level and have split these two factions into various smaller factions, each representing a province of Gondor's land. My current faction list consists of -
House of the Kings - Minas Anor, Minas Ithil and Osgilliath (and Emyn Arnen).
Anorien - The land of Anorien.
Calenardhon - Later known as Rohan.
    Ithillien - Basically northern Ithillien.
Castimir's Followers - Pelagir and the lands between Poros and Emyn Arnen.
Lossarnach - The small province south of Minas Anor.
Lebbinnin - A large province, mainly Gondor's heartland.
    Belfalas - The eastern coast.
    Anfalas - The western coast.
Andrast - The large cape on the western coast.
Morthond - The mountain valleys north of Pinnath Gelin.
Pinnath Gelin - A range of hills north of Anfalas.
Dol Amroth - The city of Dol Amroth and surrounding lands.
Mordor Protectorates - The lands in/bordering Mordor as safekeepers.
Eastern Protectorates - The lands north of Ithillien, around Dagorlad and Emyn Muil.
Enedwaith - The land of Enedwaith.
Southern Rhovanion Principalities - The lands north and east of the Undeeps.

Some of the factions here would probably start as allies with extremely good relations while others would be "neutral factions" which have no starting arrangements, of course, these factions stand the best chance of being obliterated first. The map would roughly be a square with the four corners being, the crossings of Poros, the southern tip of Mirkwood, the river Gwathlo, and the long cape of Andrast. New locations would have to be created and some locations would have to be renamed.
New characters would also have to be created, as well as new units, although many of the current ones could be used or simply reskinned. New banners, new events, the economy etc...all would have to be created to make this mod work. In all, it would be a pretty large project and would probably involve a bit of lore-breaking and the creation of fictional characters so all those creative minds can get working. '

I'd probably need Modelers, Skinners, map makers, the help of the tatw for the creation of new characters, scripters. Also, with the release of version 2.0 for tatw, there would be little point in making this for 1.4 so I'd be inclined to wait it out for the release of 2.0 or make some continous changes for compatibility.
I'm currently missing a PC so i can't do any help with modding at the moment but right now all i want is feedback, telling me if this is a good idea/or not. PM me for answers of questions... I need the communities help.

i have thought something like this for a while would be really cool
your proposal requires a new map and a lot of work you are absolutely right about that-it would be some less work if
you did the same subject and time but use the whole map and have the Arnor vs Angmar going on at the same time with the Easterlings having some subgroups and the Harad region split up into subgroups with a separate Umbar and have just the two main players(kind of like a Roman civil war between Caesar-Pompey as the template

Though this would be great it would be lots of work and there are other priorities atm.

once the Arnor type troops are available with permission those could be used as what the Gondorian legions looked like i just think if the overall structure of the mod is thought about now-do you want a lot of provinces and having to "reunite" Gondor around either the north or the south faction and battle it out within Gondor proper or do you want a "world war" type of game with waves of easterling invasions and allied Harad/Umbar/Variag ect and whatever is going on in Arnor at the time-sort of like the Crisis of the Third Century of the Roman Empire for you history fans

i guess what i wonder is if the northern"good" gondorians had their reasons to have allied Northman troops (given the story line) do you think the southern"bad" gondorians would have brought in "auxillary" troops from the east or the south? we are trying to expand on a basic framework of the story in a lore acceptable type of way-i think that if each side wanted to win this than they would be going for broke and finding as much help as possible

Your idea is good, but it would require a massive amount of scripting and a load of new factions/units would have to be created.
I'm still thinking about whether to add some Easterling Invasions, so as if they are taking advantage over the Gondorian Civil War. Also, there will probably be events concerning Arnor so maybe something like...Send some troops to Arnor and they'll pay tribute or boost your claim to the throne.

Honestly, I'd like to make it like some kind of challenge to regain the throne of Gondor.
