Hi, I'm just wondering which version of the mod I need? What is difference between RTR Platinum 1.9 and FOE 1.3? I have both RTW and BI, do I need to install both mods? Any help would be much appreciated!

RTR Platinum 1.9 is basically the same as RTR Gold. The main difference is that it uses the RTW 1.5 whereas RTR Gold used the 1.2 patch. There is also a modswitch version of 1.9 which doesn't overwrite any of the original game files, allowing you to play the unmoded RTW as well. Read the RTR Gold/Platinium FAQ to learn more.
RTR Fate of Empires(FOE) is the latest RTR release and focuses on the western Mediterranean in the year 280 BC. The FOE manual will give you a good overview.
BTW: As long as a mod installs in its own folder(ie modswitch) you can have has many mods installed as you have room on your HD for.
Welcome to the RTR forums!

Thanks for the reply and welcome
I have d/l Platinum 1.9 mod switch, and also FOE 1.1 plus the 1.3 patch. I have read the FOE manual, sounds great, but I still don't understand the difference between them...1.9 plat is the "vanilla" version of FOE? And FOE is basically plat 1.9 with a campaign? From what I've read I can install both mods to BI 1.6, so I guess I've just give it a go and try 'em both!
This came up a while ago in the Gold & Platinum forum, below is the reply I gave in that thread:
Welcome to the boards!
As far as I know, all the RTR mods are designed for the RTW 1.6 engine, so you'll have to make some coding amendments (or uninstall Alexander), to be able to play them. However, this is not as daunting as it seems! There are a few stickied threads around which provide excellent instructions on how to run the mods on RTW.
To get a mod to work alongside standard RTW, you need to make sure that you download the modswitch version. The majority of the newer mods come as modswitch, those that are not will require you to install a fresh, unmodded RTW in a new directory and then apply the mod to that version.
RTR Platinum 1.9 is a good place to start in terms of playing mods. It's got a vast campaign map, all the way from Scotland to India and uses most of the faction slots available on the RTW engine.
ExRM is my current mod of choice to play on. It began as a submod of RTR Platinum, but has gone much further than it's humble beginnings. It increases the campaign difficulty by a significant margin. Money can be hard to come by, so you must build wisely, and fight your battles carefully, especially during the early game. Galatia and the Britons both feature in the current version. There is a link in my signature to the ExRM forum if you wish to check it out.
The RTR team has also begun the VII series. The Iberian Conflict (TIC), was the first project of the current team. It's a 20 year long, scripted campaign following Hamilcar Barca's conquest of the Iberian peninsula. Fate of Empires (FOE) is the second in the RTR VII series. The map stretches from Iberia to Epirus, and attempts to accurately portray the situation in the Western Mediterranean circa 280 BC. It's famed for the difficulty of the first battle in the Roman campaign, against Pyrrhus of Epirus. It completely revolutionises the economic system, and includes featurespreviously thought impossible to create on the RTW engine, such as mini regions (as included in Empire Total War). The RTR team is currently working on the final instalment in the series, definitively named RTR VII. This will expand the map of FOE all the way to the westen shores of Asia Minor, and will max out most aspects of the RTW engine. You can find out more about RTR on our wikipedia articles.
Hopefully this helps![]()

RTR 1.9 Plat:
RTR 6 ported to RTW 1.5 and BI 1.6
RTR VII Fate Of Empires:
RTR VII - Fate of Empires (FoE) is a mod set in the Western Mediterranean during the era of the Punic Wars. As a team, we have worked hard to introduce new gameplay challenges, especially at the strategic level, without compromising the open-ended campaign feel. The player will have to master new ways of settlement integration, economic development and expansion and, additionally, face tough challenges in the form of financial crises and hostile invasions, which will occur throughout the entire period covered by the mod.
RTR VII (not yet released), RTR VII TIC (2008/7?) and RTR VII FoE (2009) have nothing to do with RTR 1.9 Plat (long time ago), except for the fact that they're both RTR mods.
