I'm looking for a good introductionary book on the history of the Sassanids, that gives a account on it's general history. Does anyone have a recommendation?

This is actually a much more difficult question than you'd think. Sassanian history is vastly under developed and in need of a comprehensive hero like Pierre Briant was for the Achaemenids.
In my (limited) experience I found Joesef Wiesehöfer's book "Ancient Persia" to be a pretty good start. It covers everything from the Achaemenids to Islam so you'll understand a lot of the Sassanid context as well.
Thanks; I couldn't find anything on my own so I guessed there wouldn't be many of them. I'll check out Wiesehofer's book, as well as Briant.
