    Default Installation Question

I don't want to turn off the UAC. Is it possible to install somewhere else in my computer where I don't need UAC off, like outside Program Files? Thanks.

Easiest is to make 2 profiles- a work and a gaming profile. UAC turned off for gaming. As far as I know there is no way to selectively turn it off or on aside from startup. If there is I hope someone shares it here...

Yes, install it outside of the directory Program Files...UAC works in that directory only..I have not verified this myself, however I read it in a post...

Yes, if you installed M2TW in a non system folder then it should work - as long as Stainless Steel itself is installed in /mods/... of the M2TW directory it doesn't matter where that M2TW main directory is.
Turning UAC back on after installation is also reported to work.

    Basicly...
    Games + Program files + Mods + UAC =
    Games + NewGamefolder + Mods + UAC =

My UAC is ON and I use D:\ and C:\Games\ for all game installations, about 80% of all installs are modded & all are working.

    Sabi,

I copied this from the Vista/WIN7 stickie, should find useful:

Another tip for Vista/Windows 7 users from Polariszephyr:

First off, don't install M2TW in the default Program Files(x86) directory, since access to that is always restricted; put it in a directory under your username (eg. I have it in C:\Users\Username\Games\SEGA\Medieval II- Total War)- all subdirectories under your user directory don't have access restrictions. This alone should be enough to remove any problems.

If it still doesn't seem to be working, then you simply have to give admin rights to your extractor program (7-zip, winRAR, etc.) when you extract the mod files; this should prevent any problems. I suppose it's possible that you might still have issues if your OS security settings are setup in certain ways, but for most people that should fix the problem.
