We can see this mod has had a great diffusion, because at least 50 000 players follow regularly the new versions and patch releases. The definition of a TATW player could be complexe :
- Possess a playable version of TATW (so 1.0 at least) correctly installed
- Having played more than 10 houres ?
- Regular players and followers of the new versions - fans
- Ratio between "visitor" players / TWC members
- Other caracteristics could be analysed : nationality, old players of the TW serie,..
The first item is also the most logical, but we can do a multiple analysis.
I hope some "pro" of statistics will help this study whose results could be very usefull for the TW community.
IF YOU KNOW OTHER LINKS TO DOWNLOAD TATW, PLZ POST THOSE LINKS IN THIS THREAD

I got frustrated about heavy balance issues which not only mess realism but also gameplay. Like 8 archers regiments firing at trolls, and not a single one dies. So many ppl demanded a balance tweak but it seems we wont get that one. I'm popping in from time to time to check for updates which hopefully will change some balance issues.
But many casual players are frightened by this issue and I've seen so many threads about ppl leaving out their frustration about this that I dont wonder much about declining player numbers.
This mod is being developed. Focus for new seems to be to complete all features and later on take care of balance. And this really isnt meant to be a troll attempt, just stating my experience. I know you can easily kill trolls by attacking them from behind, I know you can kill them with ballistas, I know you have to sacrifice your units as cannonfodder in order to achieve some victory but all those things dont justify why some units seem to have a mithril skin unbeatable by spears (trolls should be) or arrows (trolls, mumaks should be).
---------------------------------------------------------------------
... and trolls should not be able to climb on walls!
That are amazing numbers! And the mod is just a bit older than 1 year btw.
I can't believe there are so many people playing this btw.
It's a bit less, actually. I've downloaded the whole list twice, and till 1.2 another time. But still, 50.000 players is probably true (I guess I'm one of the few who is stupid enough to mess up his installation twice).
The Enemy of Human Souls

For Hell had been annexed of late,
And was a sovereign Southern State.
Trolls can climb walls because they are technically an infantry class unit. However making them cavalry will result in the ai using them stupidly and such. And as many people have said, trolls are supposed to be a challenge!
On topic, those are impressive numbers indeed + rep for the effort and heres hoping 2.0 does even better.
Mods I use:
Europa Barbarorum.
Stainless Steel.
Third Age Total War.
Darth Mod (S2TW)
Radious (Attilla)
@Korsan82 : your opinion is respectable, but really it's not the place here. This thread is not about new features, new versions, etc.. but just about POPULARITY and DIFFUSION of a mod. It's a statistic thread, so plz just speak about numbers.
I will add a trial to obtain some complementary datas.
Good idea for a thread,
I do not play this mod anymore because it does not have a lot of depth involved. Which I guess 150 active members a day disagree with. It's just a personal opinion. The numbers speak for themselves. Don't quote this.
I agree with the post above. I find that this mod is amazingly done but lacks the strategic balance. ( I am not a fan of big battles ), so it is not really for me. Don't flame me. It's an opinion,
Well the mod has been released about a year ago not 2 years, my prediction is that when it completes two years it's popularity will have greatly reduced, which is a shame because the game will be much more polished by then. It will still remain a great achievement in modding.
You are also not counting torrent downloads that would increase a bit the number of downloads, I believe that anyone that has downloaded has at least played ten hours, normally total war is played over the extent of months.

Re: Success of TATW ; number of players
Eh... Imagine this...
I know it's not the point of this mod, and probably illegal too, but imagine you guys charged even as little as 2$ for the "rights" to download the mod.
From version 1.0 to 1.4.1 we're talking 501,646 downloads.
You do the math.
I know I would have paid for it. Yup. It's that good.
But you know what they say; the best things are free!
55 thousands looks very good. Taken into account this mod have almost no active marketing, and is theme specific. As creator of it, I would be very happy about such success.
And as been implied it is kind of sad, that creators doesnīt get financial satisfaction for it. Even though I know that external motivation often disrupts internal (which is more important), i would seriously like to see them being rewarded somehow in material way. Is that possible somehow?
What does it mean that more than 150,000 people downloaded 1.0, but only 11,000 downloaded 1.4.1?
Is it that people don't like TATW after playing 1.0, or maybe they just never find any patches? That's a pretty drastic change!
Ozzmosis: I suppose itīs partly effect of repeated downloads, and the fact more people had time to try out 1.0 than 1.4 (Many just donīt know there are new patches, some donīt bother to download next patch), and there is definitely number of people who tried 1.0 said "not for me" and left TATW.
Isildor: For example Dwarf Fortress creators have enabled voluntary donations from players.

Well the numbers speak for themselves. It just shows how there was so much hype for the BEST THING EVER and all we got were pretty units and a story we all knew.

Yes, because Total War games are known for their epic story...

dont feed that little Troll
For the 1.41, well i play 1.4 til now myself.
It worked for hundrets of hours fine for me (yes i got to much sparetime :p) so somehow i never dl the last bugfix.
Besides this i personally really dont care for the popularity of this mod.
I love it since i first played it (i wont mention the balance, there are dozens of threads about this), and i still do it, thats fine for me (and thousands of other people),
And as long as KK and his team do what they are doing with the same passion they did so far it will be fine too.
May the earth be light upon you, lest the dogs can dig you out more easy.
