    Default Considering playing this mod

Hey guys, thinking about installing this mod after playing through Rome vanilla, darthmod and Europa Barborium.

One big question: are phalanxes handled well? As in not indestructible ridiculous tanks which serve to make me want to swallow poision?

What in particular makes this mod different, really defines it? Any great moments you guys want to share from your time playing?

I ask because RTW mods is all I've played in my spare gaming time for the last month and want to pick a good one next.

    1. The phalanxes are handled quite well in this mod, they are nearly indistructable tanks from the front (when using elite pikemen) but they are vulnerable on the sides, so just adopt different tactics to defeat them.

    2. This mod is defined by its huge detail into the specific roman legions, custom shields per legion, own recruiting zones etc. Also this mod has a massive map that is great fun and the factions are almost all awesome to play (depending on personal preference, ofc.) Lastly you can suit this mod to your personal playstyle, for example 1-turn Vs. 0-turn recruitment, allowing you to choose from fast paced gameplay to a more subtle and slow style, though this mod is faaaaaaaar faster than EB.

Oh and with RS2 youll be blown away

Personally I think RS handles phalanxes better than any other mod out there. As Themis already stated, they're nearly indestructible, but when flanked, I've seen them literally crumble within seconds.

Mod sounds cool, thanks for the replies.

I didn't know this mod supported 0 turn recruiting like in MTW2, that's pretty interesting. How is battle speed? What I mean is, how lethal is everyone, how quickly does everyone die? After playing both Darthmod and EB, it's interesting to see how vastly slower combat is in EB.

I just have come to hate these battles that are like 40 V 300 and don't end in moments despite a full encirclement. In that kind of hectic melee someone is just going to grab you from behind and snap your damn neck.

The combat does last longer than it would in vanilla.
However, if you have one of the say 40 vs. 300 battles,
the 40 men would route quite quickly (more than likely fighting to the death)
upon being surrounded. It would be a handy slaughter, indeed.
I've had larger battles easily last half an hour though, especially sieges.
Overall, it is well balanced. I loveeee this mod.

I was in your shoes at one point, so I understand where you are coming from.
If you are looking for a mod with excellent improvements in the game (IE: Wonderfully skinned units, amazing expansion in the factions, and an engrossing campaign) this mod is highly recommended.

The development team is amazing, and they have put out one of (if not THE) best mods for RTW. With the expansion of the faction selection (Syracuse; a Hellenic state in Sicily. Epirus; a phalanx faction sandwiched between the Macedonian juggernaut and the rising power of Rome, and Pergamum, a lone Greek city state in Turkey), your campaigns will now have a series of checks that prevent monstrous factions from appearing early on.
Along with that, the unit selection, and quality, has been vastly improved. Rome in particular has a massive selection of legions, each with their own unique combat stats. The Hellenic powers also received a much needed facelift, and now have the ability to stand up to the Roman warmachine, should you allow it to bloom. Even the Eastern factions have been refitted, and (though their infantry is still weak compared to the other factions) stand a chance of becoming the next empire to beat. Egypt has also been changed to reflect the time frame that they were in.

So, play on 1 or 0 turn, you will be in for a huge thrill. I have recommended this mod to everyone looking for something to spice up their RTW experience, and have even installed the game on several of my friends and co-workers computers. It will keep you coming back again and again, if not because of the depth, but because of the sheer fun it is to play.

    The decision is yours!

    P.S: Jessica Alba
