He authored the RTW -> MTW2 tutorial so I'd say those are his own conversions and not part of any specifc mod. Of course we'll know more once he replies

I decided to do this, since I couldn't really find any coherent single source for converting RTW units to MTW2 and would like to save others who want to get Roman units in game, but are not experienced modellers the headache of a fruitless search.

I need to take an SS of all the original models i used to create the units, so I can get permission to release it as a mod.

Some of them i know who the creators are, some I dont.

take, post them and wait 1-2 weeks see if any, from the ones u dont remember, answer the call

in any case, u could release, and write "credits for the models go to whoever made them", or anything that may apease their "rage", and if u recieve any PM's, simply apologize, tell them the situation and that you will put their names in the credits, asap...

i doubt there are "evil" peoples that won't allow the use of some models... they would gain nothing in doing so, its not like the mod is for sale

All he had to do was refrence them, and when he did that fixed everything. I think Holy Devil hit the nail on the head and is compleatly right on what to do

It's called intellectual property and they are well within their rights to withhold their work from other uses if they so wish.

i know it is their right and they MUST respect them, but considering he doesn't remember who did the models, i don't think its a bad idea, if some one sees their models, or knows by who they were made, PM him, so he can talk to the creator of those models, and of course put his name on the credits..

i also remind that this is material "for the people", meaning its free, and it being used on various other mods, should be considered more of a compliment... ("free" sounds bad in this sentence, diminishes the real work, i know, so sorry, it isnt meant in that way)

i know the creators had hard work on it... but, for example, this guys has a mod that half the TWC community wants, a roman era mod with MTW2 engine, and those models might be the engine for it to be released.... if he could talk to the creator of it, before release, and he said no, well too bad.... there is no gain for any one, but it is his right, but to not know who did them, and be unable to release it because of it sounds silly...

in extreme cases, if the creator found its models used, and he wouldn't allow it, he would have to shut down the sub mod....and thats it....

i mean cmon, they're gonna hang him now?

i also mentioned that he MUST post in this first post, if he releases the mod, that he does not know from whom the models are, and give credits to them, and hopefully some1 would talk to him...

confusing post i know, i just threw my opinion like a mad man sorry

I wasn't saying that TSD shouldn't follow your suggestion about trying to find out whose units they are before releasing his work. Just pointing out the fact that modders' work is only considered "free-use" if so deemed by its creator(s).

i have never personally modded before, i have only played with some basic files to push my games in a direction i want.
as a mod user i must also say modders are my heroes as with out them i would have no game to play.
on this same note i must say it is distrubing to me to see that a modder feels as if he cannot mod because other modders (who released their work to the public domain or for use in anothere mod for use in public domain) make him feel as if he's stealing. Wouldn't that make all modder's thefts of sega, and ca intellectual property?? I realize that sega and ca have given their permission, but then isn't any work modded still of sega, and ca property???

i like mods. i like the people who take the time to share their mods with the public. don't understand why you would make mod and wouldn't want it used. isn't that a point of publishing a mod??? we all love credit for work we do, but if you do it for credit alone your in the wrong business.

sorry for crashing your post TSD, keep up the great work. but there does appear to be those who won't forgive and let you go on. too bad!!!

Mods aren't released into the public domain. They are released to the public (very important difference) just like any game is released to the public. You can't just use bits of mods and claim it as your own work and without prior permission.

No-one here is saying he shouldn't go ahead with his mod. The TWC rules about using other people's work are very clear and I dont want to see him get burned

You are right Caesar i fully agree with you.
TSD needs to be vigilant here and take as much as time he needs to get the permission he needs to release the submod.
As we wouldn't want a fellow modder to be in any kind of jeopardy.
