    Default Aragon Faction Swap 1.51 (Aug 29)

    Hail fellow DLVers!

    This minimod changes the Aztec faction into the Aragon faction in northern Iberia. New units, new symbols, and new ancillaries make it a complete addition to the existing DLV faction list.



    Name:Aztec-Aragon Faction Swap 1.51

    For: DLV 6.2, with BB 2.7 update 43 [Found HERE]

    *Main (Imperial) Campaign only

    ______________Installation__________________________

    1. Make sure you have a clean install of DLV 6.2
    2. Then install BB 2.7, and update 43
    -[Play a couple turns to make sure this is working first]
    3. Unzip the enclosed data file, copy over the existing data file, and yes to overwrite.
    4.Finally, delete map.rwn in your world/maps/base folder AND all the string.bin files in your text folder.
    5.Start a new campaign.

    **Always back up your files before changing anything**

    ***Take note of any errors I might have left inadvertently; let me know if anything doesn't work.

    Overview:
    -2 provinces moved from America to Europe (Oklahoma -> Barcelona, Tlaxcala -> Clermont)
    -New roster for Aragon.
    -New faction symbols, banners, menu buttons.
    -Proper victory conditions, selection screen, and family tree, ca. 1180.
    -To balance the removal of Aztecs from the New World, rebel stacks have been strengthened and multiplied. (These stacks and the towns are all Mongol rebels with Aztec units).
    -Fixed Atil out near the Caspian, as it lacked a wall or garrison.
    -Made Constantinople a city and Nicaea a castle.
    -Changed strat map colors of Hungary, Lithuania and Hedjaz
    -Fixed most of the Aragonese unit voices to Mediterranean accent; Strat map agents still talk funny or not at all.
    -Added Knights of Montesa and Dismounted K. of Montesa
    -Added Hueste, a halberd-armed heavy infantry for the late period.

    Nice idea, but as I see the American continent won't be removed?
    Some unique faction's units would be cool, if you could work them out or lend from other mod.

    Hey TQ, good going with the sub-mod. Here's my wee contribution - an Aragon symbol set in the current DLV style. Let me know if you need any other stuff.
    When the time is right and the new Shadrach*Tokus DLV symbol set is out (and working with your mod) - I'll sort you an aragon symbol in the new style.

    Hey there!

    I can't offer real serious help, but maybe I can drop some ideas for the historical part - And also do some research, if needed.

    If i remember right, DLV uses faction names in the general language spoken in the faction.

    The Crown of Aragón, would be in Spanish La Corona de Aragón, and in Catalan La Corona d'Aragó. I'd suggest that you use Catalan names for it, but Aragonese wouldn't be bad either. (Maybe simply text-file mini-mod - submods could fullfill that too. [Unfortunately I haven't got any idea how the Crown of Aragón is named in Aragonése.. I think I could find it out, though.)

    Zaragoza is the Spanish name for that city - In Catalan it would be Saragossa, i'd love to see that too

    I don't speak Catalŕ nor Aragonés, i'm just learning Castellano - So i'm neither from Spain, Aragón or Catalunya - But if i can help somehow with that part, i'll try

    I do think that in Aragonés it's also called 'la Corona d'Aragó', as I found this site: http://www.uiquipedia.org/Corona_d%27Arag%C3%B3 Now it seems to me that this is an Aragonese version of wikipedia. While I don't know Aragonese, I do speak catalan, and this is pretty different.. My point being that the name is the same in both languages.

    I must say I'm thrilled to see someone still putting work in this, thanks!

    About Aragóns faction roster:

    It seems like the Crown of Aragón was heavily involved with the Knights Templar and other orders, but the main information i found is about the templars. They accompanied the Crown of Aragón in several conquests..(for example Valencia and Mallorca), they also got a mass of lands and rights. After they dissolved their order, wikipedia says, that the order of Montesa took their part.

    German, but offers a whole lot of information about the templars in Aragón If someone is really interested, I can translate it.

    For the Almughavars: As far as i found out, they were armed with a shield and a short sword, and 2 javelins and mostly recruited from the Pyrenees.

    So, I'd suggest to make a light armored Almughavar unit, with shield and short sword and one or two javelins for throwing. And templars and the order of montesa must/should be represented somehow. Maybe they could be easier to get, than for other factions?

    i dont agree with the aragon roster.
    First the Military Orders are Wrong.

    They should have Templars Knight and after 1314 - supression of the Knights Templar they were replaced with the Montesa Knights

    Spearman: Lancer, mostly from feudal raisings and men-at-arms on foot.
    Pikeman: Piquer, mostly from the Urban Hosts, armed with a long spear and a sword. Shield at the back.
    Swordsmen: Espaser
    Archers: Arquers(not used, Catalans did not like archery)
    Crossbowmen: Ballesters
    Noble retinue: Mainada, usually 20 knights (Mainada means literally retinue, although today this word means children, deformed its original meaning of "brothers" or "sons")

    I will replace Santiago knights with Templar guild. That'll probably be the only military order they can recruit, just to keep it simple.

    As for Pedrol"s roster suggestions, I'll try and adapt that to current units, as I only intend to create one or two new units (replacing Aztec specific units, such as the Arrow Thrower and Cuahchiqueh. I think everything except the Armat, Armored Halberds, and Navarre Infantry are already represented by various other units (i.e., Basque Archers as Yeoman Archers, Alforrats as Mounted Sergeants, etc.) So I'll go through and make sure the EDB, EDU, and battle_model_db properly reflect these suggestions, and post the revised roster later this weekend.

    Also, PedroL, could you provide me with sources on some of these units, especially Navarre Infantry and Armats, so I know how to describe them, as wel as choosing models and skins for them.

    I Can provide you with some pictures of that units! I made several rosters for some mods, and the Iberia regions is one of my strongest knowledge.

    Thanks PedroL. I'll look into finding some way of implementing them. For now, Feudal knights will have to stand in for the Armats.

    Does this work on Historical Campaign, or just Imperial Campaign?

    CTD log after trying to load up Historical campiaign, but failing at the end of loading screen. No "CTD"-msg, just that DLV is closed. I used BB2.7u21 ::War Draft:: <15/06/10> and HbHadast's Improved Characters Portraits, but I doubt if ther effect Aragon.

    Thanks Sivilo, I forgot to mention that this is only for the Imperial campaign so far. I'll edit the descr_strat for Historical sometime this weekend.

    As for the log, I think I misplaced the northern_general_aragon skin as I was moving files around. I'll update the download file tonight when I get back to my home computer. As for the missing northern_general_milan...I never touched any of that, so that's not an issue of my files, I think. I'll try out a couple things, but it might depend on operating system and where it puts files, as I see something about an F: drive with Programfiler there. I'll let you know.

    "F: drive" is just the root and name of my harddrive and "Programfiler" is the norwegian version of Program files, and non of those should have any impact on Medieval 2 Total War/DLV_ext/mods/....etc. as it has never been a factor.

    Another thing I have observed is the winning condition for Aragon. I think you should add the Greek part and the rest of the blue patch of this map:

    Their voice is still mongol/aztec, and not... spanish/french... (not sure which voice would be best around 1200s...

    General BG
    The General Bodyguard unit have silversurfer horses, and only the General is a silversurfer general.

    Title
    The king and heir of Aragon lack the "This man is a decendent of ******" trait all the other noble family members of other factions have.

    Civil war
    First turn, I click end turn, and from that turn - My king have caused an inspiration to civil war. I'm not sure if you intended for that to happend. Now I'm also not sure how you did it, but if you do - then please apply it to the norwegian faction (at least historical ampaign) as they were in the middle of a 100 year civil war at the time.

    Magyar custom battle
    I suggest changing Magyar with Aragon in custom battle, since Magyar faction is pretty much vanilla.

    extra unit slot
    A new early infantry would be awsome. And a mounted knight of montesa for Kings stable (high end). This way, the unit will be available around 1300s, whicg is pretty accurate . Atleast until there is a way to manipulate the templar chapter house in 1307.

    The family members in the family tree are also missing their surname Berenguer.

    I don't know if it is just me or there is no voices on the campaign map when you click charaters.

    There is no crown ancillary for the faction leader, this might be why there is the problem with the civil war after one turn.

    Catalonia is spelt wrong. (In the game it is spelt Catalonha).

    These are just a few things I noticed before even ending a turn. Other than that fantastic work, love that Aragon is now included

    Please forgive the long delay, but much has been going on, as you can imagine.

    I've uploaded Version 1.2 of my Aztec-Aragon faction swap, and it should work with Taiji's latest update 31; but test it and see how you like it. I've now done most of what I wanted to accomplish.

    But I do have 2 related questions:

    #1. I'm working to replace the 8 Aztec/America units with more interesting stuff. I can scrounge up a Navare Infantry for Aragon and a Knight of Montesa. Any suggestions for the 5-6 other slots?

    My ideas:
    -Javelinmen, for all Euro factions (weak peasant skirmisher)
    -Levy Axemen, also for all Euro, (fast w/ strong attack, but weak armor, based off Raider unit)
    -Burgher Pikemen, for HRE and maybe as a regional unit, so they have a strong late-game army
    -Armats for Aragon, professional household troops with excellent discipline. mounted and dism.
    -original Basque Archer, rather than the stolen Yeoman Archer I'm using now
    -maybe some assorted regional and a merc or two

    #2. Is anyone overly attached to the separate Bill Militia-Billmen units? Same with Heavy versions of both. I've never really seen the point of having four slots for basically two units. I never even use them when playing as England.
    a) Subset of #2: Would anyone protest if I combined Town Militias and Peasants? (i.e., Make Town Militia represent both, in towns and castles) Because that clears up several slots, and makes the game more...refined haha


    Let me know your feelings on either issue.

    Hey Taron, thanks for your tremendous efforts & release w/ this MOD. I too am not a fan of having the Aztecs in the Americas. I do support having the Americas there but minus the settlements & Aztec or rebel armies, but better only for the minerals for obtaining more money.

    I was wondering if you could add "The Knights of Aviz" to Portugal, they were a religious order & I remember coming upon them in a different MOD. Just a suggestion. Variety is always great.
