Default HOI III Semper Fi released

Semper Fi is officially ready for download. Reading some AAR's and general fan reaction over at the Paradox forums now. Just wanted to see if any TWCer's had it yet and what they thought of the expansion. First reports coming in say it's great!!

after all the complaints i heard about HOI3, i decided not to take the step of purchasing the first HOI game. if this expansion fixes the claimed problems, i might take the step.

Same, I 'aquired' HoI3, and, tbh, I prefer HoI2 (with all the expacks and patches).

The supply system was fixed with the last patch for Hoi III. 1.4 I believe. What didn't you like about the command structure?

Yeah, I don't have it yet either. From the sound of it at Paradox's forums, most of the gamers at this point like the changes the expansion makes. Not to many bug reports at this point either.

No, the supply system isn't fixed, As Japan all your suppies for your Continental armies go through one, small, port, it happens for Italy too.

I like the command structure, but since you can't get a clear overview (something rectified with SF) it takes ages to re-organize your troops (especially as the USSR), and the AI can be pretty dumb sometimes too.

If you only have one port then there is no choice but to let supplies transport from that port - remember that, Manchuria, although your puppet, does not allow your supplies in Korea to go through its territories and would not supply you using their supplies after you enter China.

I;m reading the features, and it all seems stuff they should've put in a patch.

Thats part of the whole supply problem is that places where supply is logically easy, is complicated by allies. For example I have had a single infantry division waste away sitting right on a port (which isn't supplying any other units), because the province was owned by an ally. I'm sitting around with 1000+ transports 999999 in supplies and complete control of the sea lanes, but I can't supply one little infantry division sitting on a port.

Did they fix the problems with the game speed? When I played HoI3, it was unbearably slow, and I have a mothering beast of a computer. I mean, it took me an hour to get to June.... in 1936 as Peru. That's a bit of a problem for me.
I thought about writing something clever, but then I remembered I'm not clever enough.

    Ugh.

    Why "Semper Fi"?

I mean really, the US was only one part of a truly massive war, the Marines were a small part of THAT.

Not really, unfortuneatly by about 6 game years the time really slows down, and becomes almost impossible to play late in the game.
It really sucks when your svoiet union prematurely attacks germany, and the subsequent 15 year war involves an entire take over by europe (including nazi held britain), 70% of Africa, the middle east, ALL of mainland asia, and Canada, and cannot finish the invasion of south america, Japan Mainland or the pacific islands just because the game slows to a crawl, despite I have a very capable computor.
They need to fix that. Also Does sempi fi fix island hopping and naval invasions? Its soemthing I loath and I wish I could designate to my AI generals, but they seem to hate it as much as I do, its a miracle I took canada and landd in japan at all.

Well that's always been a Hearts of Iron problem, there is a lot of AI at work and for that 6 years, almost every nation on earth has been building more units.

But it did used to literally take half an hour to play a month on certain computers.

It's much improved since 1.0 but still not great at this point with regards to the game speed. I hope that when they build the next engine after Clausewitz, they incorporate multi cores better. Paradox games are almost all CPU and they aren't really utilizing near as much as they could at this point.
