Mysterious CTD

So the other day I was playing as Rome and I ended my turn and I was done playing for the day. I saved my game and as soon as I hit the save button it CTD'd. Now i cant reload that save game. But not only that I can't load ANY save games. I can start new campaigns but as soon as I click the save button it CTD's. For loading I get to the loading screen and the music goes and it sounds like it struggles to progress the bar (music goes and all of a sudden gets a bit choppy then not). In short If I save a game (it actually saves) but crashes the game to desktop. When I try to load that (or any other game) the same thing happens. The weird thing is that this is a completely fresh RTW with no other mods and I haven't changed any of S.P.Q.R.'s scripts at all. Its just as if something plain out broke somehow while playing.

Are you using Vista OS?

No, I'm rocking it out on Windows XP. Its weird its like something has broken inside the game. Pressing save seems to instantly corrupt every game. So then of course you get a CTD when you try to load it.

do you have autosave switched on?

I did not. Also I had no problem starting a new campaign. It would load up. I would even try doing absolutely nothing not even activating the garrison script before pressing escape, save, type in a name and the split second i hit save it would CTD. I just wiped the game again. and reinstalled. But when it was CTD'ing it was on a completely clean copy. So I wonder what it was, I just hope it doesn't happen again.
