    Default Crazy Gauls

    just lost the most important battle against gauls...but it was just matter of time when they will destroy me
    every turn they send like 5 full armys on my border and sometime 8 or 9...it was funny to watch ...it is like they spawn in front of my citys
    battle me:5 legions (one in town) they :7 generals (full army)... Gaul victory and gats of Italy open ...even they lost lots of army just behind them it is like new generals ...waiting to enter...
    And if i won that battle I could not Reinforce legions because a lost lots of population in towns (non stop battle against gauls)...
    Is it posible to change that gauls dont attack like they are crazy ...it is just imposible to play and get fun with this... And yes i just forgot to say that Greece and Carthage attacke me in south Italy all the time...
    How much i need to wait Marian reforme ...im in 186BC i think
    I just do not understand...Gauls are in war with Germans and Dacia...but nothing going with they war ...Dacia dont attack them and germans also nothing....

    Gauls are aggressive towards Rome only. The super faction fix prevents them of fighting against each other. That's why other factions don't attack each other.

    On what difficulty are you playing?

    As long as they don't attack there is nothing to worry about, some get this bug. Don't know why

    I have started a new campaign with Rome and have taken most of the towns from the Gauls because they kept attacking me. I found out why the Brits was provented from building boats after they took out the German's and owned most of Europe and have reduced Macadonia down to 1 town which they will take soon i guess.

    I have a question. After you reach the games end date do you get an option to continue playing or is it game over and you have to start again?

    Are you sure your playing SPQR? Did you tamper with the files?

    Yes, he altered so Britain has boats.
    This is the exact reason they aren't meant to have boats. They are superaggressive to give you a tough fight when you land there as Roman.

    As far as I know, you can just choose to play after the end date which should be around 260AD. But if you're playing with the 4tpy script that is nearly 2000 turns!

    I had problems today when the game would keep crashing, after reading some topics on this i found that my autosave was still active which can currupt saves so i read. I was saving every 5 game years and after trying to start from a earlier save had the same problem. I have uninstalled the SPGR mod and RTW and reinstalled everything and have left it all as it is with a few changes in the preference file like screen resolution, safe refresh set to true etc but apart from them little changes to the game settings i have not changed anything else.

    In the game i was playing before reinstalling everything, the Brits had wipped the Germans out and had taken over most of Europe. In my game i have started as the Mercadonian's (they are mt favourite faction) however i can't train diplomats, not that i used them very often only when i wanted to brib a legion or make a little extra cash per turn by saying to a nation i was close to wippling out i will not attack them if they pay6 me XX amounts of gold for the next XX amount of turns. Didn't alway's work but hey it was nice to get that little extra income which would come in handy later on when i was ready to hit a few towns all at the same time.

    I know the idea is to play as Rome but me been totally new to this kind of game means no matter who i choose to play with its hard, my own house rules are to never hire merconeries even as temp troops to max out a legion, never retrain any legions and to make sure my teretories are fully protected before attempting to expand my own lands.

    Rome is the only faction that can recruit Diplomats, because as you already know, the mod is made to only be played as Romans.

    In my opinion this is bad.It would be more fun to see how to Gaul try to invade Germany..or I don't know.This ''super faction fix'' cannot be disabled?

    The fix wasn't there in previous versions and most of us here didn't like only fighting Greeks for 300 years while all other factions had been wiped out...

    I had more problems with CTD's last night. It was everytime the rebals was doing there turn, i have so far managed to get further without a CTD by saving on my third turn. I think the problem was with a rebal legion who was close to one of my towns. After killing him i haven't had any CTD's however i still save on my third turn just incase, i have 3 saves which i use to rotate between each is called Rome 1, 2 and 3. So if i save on Rome 1 the next time i save it will be on Rome 2 and then Rome 3 for the next save and back toi Rome 1 for the 4th save and so on and so forth.

    I have wipped the Gauls out again, they was tough. I lost thousands of men and had some great battles, however its thye nations with charriots or elephants i fear more so the ele's. The charriots aren't too bad if you have pikemen or phalanx's, but in my first encounter with ele's i lost most of my troops because i didn't have enough missile units. I set the archer's to fire flamed arrows at the ele's but they had little effect as the ele's charged my line.

    My army is around 10 phalanx, 3 archer's, 1 general (obviously), 2 cavalry (normally light) and 4 legion cohorts or what ever they are called. Most of my men routed as the 2nd group of ele's charged on my right flank, the 1st group had gone for the centre and lost a few ele's to the phalanx who was stretched across the front of my army.

    I tend to have the following formation when attacking or been attacked against an army with many cavalry or in this case ele's.

    G = General
    P = Phalanx
    LC = Light Cavalry
    C = cohorts aka heavy infantry

    Code:
    P - P - P - P - P - P
    P - C - A - A - A - C - P
    P - C - LC - G - LC - C - P
    Sorry for some reason i can't get the formation to work out, the right is how the left side should look aswell. I will try to get a pic of the formation next time i play.

    It works fine against cavalry units because the phalanx units are protecting my flanks and i have cohorts who can run around and protect the rear if the enemy cavalry try to hit from behind which they do try from time to time, most enemy cavalry tend to try and hit when they think my formation is messed up and find it isn't as bad as it looked.

    The only thing in SPQR that is effective against elephants is skirmishers.

    Oh boy, that means i'll have to restructor some of my armies because i don't use skirmishers as a rule, in less playing as the Brits of course but even then i don't have more than 2 units of them.
