I had more problems with CTD's last night. It was everytime the rebals was doing there turn, i have so far managed to get further without a CTD by saving on my third turn. I think the problem was with a rebal legion who was close to one of my towns. After killing him i haven't had any CTD's however i still save on my third turn just incase, i have 3 saves which i use to rotate between each is called Rome 1, 2 and 3. So if i save on Rome 1 the next time i save it will be on Rome 2 and then Rome 3 for the next save and back toi Rome 1 for the 4th save and so on and so forth.
I have wipped the Gauls out again, they was tough. I lost thousands of men and had some great battles, however its thye nations with charriots or elephants i fear more so the ele's. The charriots aren't too bad if you have pikemen or phalanx's, but in my first encounter with ele's i lost most of my troops because i didn't have enough missile units. I set the archer's to fire flamed arrows at the ele's but they had little effect as the ele's charged my line.
My army is around 10 phalanx, 3 archer's, 1 general (obviously), 2 cavalry (normally light) and 4 legion cohorts or what ever they are called. Most of my men routed as the 2nd group of ele's charged on my right flank, the 1st group had gone for the centre and lost a few ele's to the phalanx who was stretched across the front of my army.
I tend to have the following formation when attacking or been attacked against an army with many cavalry or in this case ele's.
G = General
P = Phalanx
LC = Light Cavalry
C = cohorts aka heavy infantry
Code:
P - P - P - P - P - P
P - C - A - A - A - C - P
P - C - LC - G - LC - C - P
Sorry for some reason i can't get the formation to work out, the right is how the left side should look aswell. I will try to get a pic of the formation next time i play.
It works fine against cavalry units because the phalanx units are protecting my flanks and i have cohorts who can run around and protect the rear if the enemy cavalry try to hit from behind which they do try from time to time, most enemy cavalry tend to try and hit when they think my formation is messed up and find it isn't as bad as it looked.
