Default OpenOffice Spreadsheet help for a Newbie

I'm in the process of creating a couple spreadsheets for one of the on-site games (Fantasy Alliances), there's one problem though: I know next to nothing very little about spreadsheets. I should be able to utilize the simpler mathematic functions when necessary, but beyond that I am lost.

One of the things I desperately need to know how to do is how to do drop-down lists or some sort of thing that allows me to determine whether they want thing one, two, or three, et cetera.

Dude, to create a drop down list, follow my steps below.

    1. Create a new sheet to put in your data. This is the data sheet.
    2. In the data sheet, assuming you wanted to show one, two and three in the dropdown, key into cells A1 to A3, "one", "two" and "three".
    3. Select all three cells, at the top left hand corner, where value is now "A1:A3", give it a name, e.g. "Selection".
    4. Now go back to your input sheet, where the dropdownlist should belong.
    5. Select the cells to be converted to the dropdownlist.
    6. Go to Menu > Data > Validity.
    7. Change Allow to 'Cell Range'.
    8. At the source, type in "=Selection" without the double quotes.
    9. Click OK.

    I hope this is useful.
