Default Lord of the Rings SBG

    Hello all,

If anyone here has ever heard of or played the Lord of the Rings Strategy Battle Game from Games Workshop?

To stay on topic I found it interesting how the mod took a lot from LOTR SBG. Interesting to see how even the skins are almost exactly the same.

To continue OFF topic. I would like to open this thread for discussion for this hobby.

Yes, I and my brother played it for quite a while and we have quite a collection. Unfortunately, we no longer have the time or space to play it, and the models are so f'ing expensive now. It was very fun while it lasted and maybe I will be able to do it again, sometime. It was especially fun painting them and making terrain and building models.

Yep i played it like 4 years ago in the biginning had an full high elve army with elrond and Gil galad. Also A full Goblin army with the balrog, Durbuz and the drums. It was a very nice game to play.... But this game have animations More strategy than luck:p don't have to role the dice the win a battle:p

Yeah I played and I still play it. But I find it a little unbalanced and quite hard on the pocketbook if you know what I mean. But really, we have this mod, that has lots of the same units.....and its free so......I have switched to this. And if I miss the whole painting thing, then I get on my photoshop and mod unit skins for my heart's content. Its basically the same.

Well, i would have been interested if not for all the lore-killing units they invented.

So i decided to play Warhammer, and it`s much better.

It's good to have a visual reference when creating/conceptualizing units. You can only be so descriptive with words.

i was into them for awhile, got them in the magazine series, but i lost interest because there was literally NO ONE to play the game with, plus it was rather expensive, and my funds were........limited....to say the least

If you find a local Games Workshop store there are tons of people to play with. ( Mine is only 20 minutes away ) Sorry for double post. Couldn't really get the quote in and decided to quote this.

I personally only spent 90 dollars on it and have my fill. I mean I have 500 points. I didn't buy the rule book because there is a customer copy and I only bought 1 pack of soldiers of gondor, 1 pack of knights, 5 paints ( 3.70 each ), and some glue. So I mean really, my army is good and I got to it with little overprice. ( It is only fun to play when they are colored )

Yep used to be really into it. Still got my huge Isengard army. I started through a monthly magazine too, right when it first came out. But computer/console gaming is far more interesting and to be honest, Third Age blows Games Workshop out of the water.

Well the last time I went to my local GW (well it wasnt GW but you get my drift) the atmosphere was horrible. People cussing, drinking, and all that stuff. Being ignored. I hated it.

But I still love the models. I still have the discontinued ROTK, TTT, and FOTR boxed sets! Plus breaking of the Fellowship!
I really want to get some Arnorians warriors and heroes...

Interesting. In the club I am at it is a cheerful atmosphere, people painting, talking about models, playing games. ( No eating or drinking allowed in the club though ). So I cannot fathom how you could find such a horrid place. You need to check out an "official" GW store. I think its much better there.
