I can't believe NBC cancelled the show and now, two weeks later after the final episode, TNT refused to pick it up. Law & Order was one the greatest shows on television.

It's true that Dick Wolf's "liberalism" has got a bit out of hand (prosecuting a guy who extends the life of a terminal patient? WTF?) and that the show hasn't been the same after Jill Hennessy, Chris Noth and Jerry Orbach departed. But cancelling it? One season short of it becoming the longest-running show on American television? No way.

It wasn't Annie Hall or Manhattan that made me visit NYC, but Law & Order. It'll be sorely missed.

I'll have to get by with Law & Order: UK. Even though the CPS guys wear... whigs.

There's plenty of Law and Order spin offs. Personally I find Law and Order depressing.

It's a shame, really. Every once in a while, my friends would tell me that Law and Order was filming close to them, and the show itself was still pretty interesting, though it could have some stupid episodes too.

I hope the female lawyer gets a nice new show or something though.

Really? For me L&O always painted a rather rosy picture of the justice system. Loyal, intelligent EADAs partnered with drop-dead gorgeous female ADAs having intelligent debate over coffee in Worth St. while the cops roamed the streets in search of bad guys. There were mistrials and the like in the show, but then again... Dick Wolf (the creator) always wanted the show to have a cinema-verité style to it.

Where I come from, public prosecutors turn the other way while cops beat the hell out of black kids after arresting them for pick-pocketing. So, yeah, I don't find it specially depressing. ;P

The early seasons (1990-1996) were the best.

The most depressing episode for me was when that hot brunette ADA Alexandra some-foriegn-last-name was killed. i almost cried when they found her body in the trunk, and heard she died asphyxiating on her own vomit

I also enjoy law and order SVU.

Criminal intent is ok but not the same.

Im curious about L&O: LA, cause i live in LA. they better do my city the justice they did new york.

I don't know. I've only seen a few episodes, but the crimes are often so dreary and even though they successfully prosecute the criminal or whatever I just feel like it's all so pointless in the end cause I know some morbid tale will be up next week.

I guess I just have weird taste in murder-mystery. I much prefer the style of Bones which is more light-hearted and has dark humor in there.

I don't know why they are canceling the original and then starting Law & Order LA.

L&O: LA will most probably be dreadful. Dozens of episodes about dead actresses, Mexican gangs, artificially tanned playboys.

Law & Order is a NY institution. It's part of what city was and has become.

I can imagine LA Law Order now... cops and ADAs driving around for hours to get to the crime scene and then driving back. Going through drive throughs for a coffee or donut. Ill miss those nice walks the New York Cops could take.

Yea, it's a shame... I was never a faithful viewer, but whenever I did tune in, I truly enjoyed it. It's too bad it was cancelled, because it was American television at its best, especially when compared to all of the rest of the garbage on TV today (i.e. "reality" TV, The "History" Channel *cough* Ice Road Truckers, Gangland *cough*) Well, I guess that's what the series DVD's are for. I'll be sure to buy them, and be grateful to be able to enjoy what I've been missing out on for the past 20 years...

Jill Hennessy was my favourite ADA of all times. Come back Jill!

Orbach and McCoy (Waterston) were the close second best characters. I've never watched Chris Noth in action, so can't say much about him.
"Romans not only easily conquered those who fought by cutting, but mocked them too. For the cut, even delivered with force, frequently does not kill, when the vital parts are protected by equipment and bone. On the contrary, a point brought to bear is fatal at two inches; for it is necessary that whatever vital parts it penetrates, it is immersed. Next, when a cut is delivered, the right arm and flank are exposed. However, the point is delivered with the cover of the body and wounds the enemy before he sees it."

I only watched the various L&O series for its charismatic/beautiful actors.

What was the name of that Italian-named actor once again? The one that's so handsome.

Otherwise it was alright. Unless when it came to episodes involving young people. The ammount of is fascinating. Arguing that 14-year olds don't produce semen capable of insemination is beyond silly.

Though it probably is a big issue in all other episodes else too. I do remember the friend of my mum, former paramedic, to be quite annoyed by "those American crime series" and their alleged exaggerations.
