    Default [EU3] Difficult to learn?

Just been reading a liitle bit through this section of the forum.
I'm a sucker for strategy games and I think this is a game I would enjoy a lot.

    Now I'm wondering.
Is this game very difficult to learn? I don't mind learning a game by the way, I'm just wondering.

    Thanks for any replies..

Initially, very, especially if you've not played a Paradox game before. I think EUIII is the most intuitive of all the games, however. You'll get through it, and you can always ask for help here.

I also own (and played off course) Hearts of Iron 2. So will that help a bith then?

Personally, I found HoI a lot harder to get to grips with than EUIII. As with all Paradox games, it has a steep learning curve, but if you're familiar with HoI, I don't think you should have too much trouble.

EU3 is the easiest paradox game to learn.

Paradox games ranked by difficulty, easiest to hardest:

Crusader Kings --> EU ----> HoI ----------------------------------myfingerhurts----> Victoria

Most of them have a learning curve that starts out outrageously steep, as you learn your way around the interface and all the features, and then it flattens out for the most part, becoming more of an "easy to learn but hard to master" type of gameplay... except for Victoria. Cue funny learning curve picture with people hanging from cliffside etc etc.

I think that all Paradox games are more or less equally difficult to learn. The thing is that each game is concentrating on very different main aspects each.
Crusader Kings: You have to learn about all the inheritance laws, how to track inheritance and how to use that knowledge for your benefits.
Europa Universalis: You have a very broad scope of different things, but none of them are too deep or complicated by themselves. The trick is to find the right uses for all the available things and how to coordinate them.
Victoria: You mainly have to deal with a very complex economical and political system.
Hearts of Iron: You have to learn a lot about the different aspects and parts of the military system and how to use them together to maximum effect.

All aspects are present in all games, but they tend to be far less complex than the "main" parts in each respective game. For example, you still have a relatively complex military system in Victoria, but that is nowhere near as complex as that in HoI. The economic system in HoI is far less complex than that in Victoria, on the other hand.

HOI 3 was defoa hard game to come by. Economically not so much when your Germany but militarily. I still can't mix my army well and forget to do parallels, but all In all I still manage to conquer France.

I couldn't be bothered to learn Crusader Kings, but in EU3, once you've learnt it you'll sit there wishing it was more in depth.

I have it now, and I must say it isn't too difficult to play.
At first I had some trouble managing my finances and inflation, but thats all going well now

    Had something weird though.
I started a camping as Holland with historucal settings.
I managed to get a revolution against me and thus got a new king.
He died a few years later in 1417 and was succeeded by a queen.
Her reign began in thus in 1417. Now it is the year 1521 and she's still alive...
    Meaning she's over a 100 years old..

What version of EU3 do you have? The expansions fixed the ridiculous aging issues.

So that should be EU3, EU3 IN en EU Napoleons Ambition.

EU3 is easy once you learn what all the little menus and sliders do. Then as soon as you learn them all you wish there were twice as many. I echo the sentiments on economics here, just send merchants to all the decent CoT's and/or join a trade league and you're done.

Paradox games are generally difficult to learn, much more than your average TW game.
Though out of all of Paradox's games that i have played, EU3 Is the easiest to learn(though in paradox's terms, "easiest" is still quite hard).

There is learning in TW games??

Basically, EU3 is easy to learn but difficult to play, unlike HoI2, which is easy to learn and easy to play (HoI3 is another matter).

I never got the hold of HoI3, like, at all.It was so frustrating. I just couldn't keep on trying to play the game, as I had no idea what to do.
