    hi folks,

try this if u are getting bored with Single Player campaigns or Multi-player Battles.

I invited a pal from multi-player battles (that's why you want to be nice on battles) and we played a Multi-player (capped at 2 players) campaign.

In order not to steamroll the NPC (non player character), we set France as NPC and enabled her VH/VH for difficulty. That should make up for the lack of human analysis for her.

I took on the role of UK and Russia was the role taken by my buddy.

As the inherent weakness of Russia is its weak state of affairs at the start and it would be like arty-spam if Russia is attacked from the start, so we had a gentleman's agreement that invasion of Russia would not occur till 1807.

The suspense of distrust of the human player and the purposeful built up of the french army as a diplomatic move moved the game to a whole different level of gaming.

The human factor in MP campaign made this game a 3 person gaming experience where there's no natural alliance between any two for a sustained period of time.

Brit by me. Russia by my buddy. and France on VH VH by the CPU / NPC.

try it if u have the time and someone who's fun to play and banal chat with along the way!

I hadn't even thought of playing the Peninsular Campaign in MPC till now! That could be pretty epic.. playing as Britain, fighting back the other players looming french menace...
or teaming up as Portugal and Spain to kick the non-iberians out of the peninsula..
I can't wait for it to be released now :
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
You just lost the game. But you also won the contest.

The last multi-player campaign which I tried to play only lasted a few turns. I gave my opponent first choice of factions, so of course he chose Britain. I then chose Russia. We had no special rules in place, and I could tell my opponent was thinking, "boy, I'm going to kick this retard's ass"! Anyway, we played a few turns, and I was content to let my opponent beat up on the A.I. in all the of his "epic" battles in order to save time. However, the A.I. eventually invaded Gibralter with a small, crappy Spanish army, and for some unexplainable reason, my opponent insisted on me taking control of the Spanish forces. Anyway, to make a long story short, after my small crappy Spanish militia decimated and routed my opponent's British "regulars" while suffering negligible losses, my opponent "rage quit" and was never seen or heard from again! I guess I should have let him win a few battles before eventually crushing him so he would have stuck around a little longer.

sorry to hear about your experience.

i find that getting to know someone from online battles reveals their personalities or age. (kids tend to go alittle bon qui qui)

the person i was playing with was actually very mature about the game.

we made decisions based on what's good for us.

eg. him being russia is dirt poor and... he wanted trade agreement.

no way, am i going to do that, with no money. and it's all gameplay, taken in jest

i tried to play campaign again with a younger player and he went "u must accept trade or i won't play..."

    those kind sucks.

but otherwise, MP campaign does add a deeper dimension to the gameplay as humans are more unpredictable.

and as britain... i have to guard against his boat raids and landing on my island!

add me if u want to do MPC.

    multi player campaign.

Yep. Mp campaign is FUN. But most people seem not interested in playing campaigns and I can only find a few host even in the busiest times. And my opponent often got bored and quits. One of my lamest opponent is in the Egyptian campaign. My opponent quits immediately after his finished loading!! Darn it.

MPC is the best. I can't play Sp since I started to play MPC's.

    Agreed.

I don't quite undrstand the whole 'make france 3rd player' idea of the OP. I founf when I set battle difficulty to VH in MPC it was v hard to win vs a human controlled AI as they got all the stat and morale jukes that you experience in SP except of course they are actually playing with some intelligence ...

Anyone else succesfully played MPC on VH/VH?

the purpose is to add another player to the game.

like Risk, having more players makes the game more dimensional.

so instead of A vs B.

I got to balance with letting France grow Strong while weakening human opponent and vs versa, so that I slowly grow to be the survivor.

I understand the concept but didn't get how setting to VH/VH would turn France into 'another player'. It will still be an AI controlled faction like all the rest just that much stronger. At the same time, as you mentioned it unbalances the game in a whole load of other ways. I agree with your H/N setting for balance.

Obviously having a third or even fourth/fifth player(s) would make the MPC even more amazing and multi-dimensional - notwithstanding technical issues. Like Diplomacy (the vintage board game) but with the possibility to prevail by tactical as well as strategic skill.

FInally, I'm interested to know whether other players have experienced the ame problems with H/VH battle difficulty in MPC when playing vs AI. Even playing on Hard I was finding it took like 20 mins and lots of casualties for a unit of grenadiers to clear a house of town watch. Strangely with drop ins on a SP campaign even with VH difficulty there didn't seem to be the big stat boosts for the enemy player. Would be interestign to hear people's experience.

VH compensates for the lack of human analysis on the NPC's part.

it's the only way to simulate a 3rd player role, in lesser settings, it's easily beatable.

don't take my preference as absolute.

    do what you like.

    cheers.

    I found best settings to be after playing more than 30 MPC;

Hard/Normal, Play as AI, Fight battles, Dont show AI move, 60 minutes battle, 5 minutes move (for Europe), 3 minutes move (Italy and Egypt).

VH/VH in MPC brings unbalance. AI nations get to strong and their armies controled by a good play become just to unbalanced.

    ^^^^ He was only joking

As already mentioned, multiplayer campaign is really fun.

One problem -----> Why is Napoleon's face wrong on both his general character and in the diplomacy scroll?
Is that crizpy enough for ya?

Seriously, it doesn't matter what face is shown for any other general.

The one person they should not screw up is Napoleon.

Didn't they test the multiplayer campaign or something? Those game testers should get fired.

Yes. The face is ugly. I never saw a man with no eyes like him.

Oh, and welcome to the forums
    hi there,

basically, not taking france and setting the game to VH VH gives the french the position of the third player.

since we can only have 2 human players on MPC, setting french to CPU on VH VH is the best way to make sure, among the non player characters, there is one strong player amongst them.

I do hope there can be more than 2 human players on a campaign.

the human factor from betrayal, ruse, etc would be v exciting.

I broke alliance with russia when austria offered me money.

and... russia (the other human player) came to me with some money to patch things up.

on the surface, we have the pact towards defeating france but we all know... we are buying time before facing each other off.

all the small acts of sabotage, such as sending the spy to sabotage pays off too.
