Changing faction midgame?

I read somewhere that using the ESF editor you can change a savegame file so that when you load it you are playing another faction.

In my game I'm trying to liberate a province, and "Stage" a revolt then play as them. It's for an AAR... but I would like to know how to do it if possible. I looked through the tutorials and saw similar things, but nothing directly.

Ok, I was able to get the savegame to load but since I saved in France's turn, it won't let me do anything... it acts as if it's mid-turn.

I changed the SAVE_GAME_HEADER to Ireland, as well as some of the PLAYER_ARRAY stuff.

thats really easy but you should start where all factions are already unlocked
so just download all factions playable
then do your liberation thing
and then save the game ,make a hybrid startpos and start as the other faction
