Default What is next for the Total War series?

I know this is incredibly early for this, but my old one was moved and closed a while before Shogun 2 was released and I feel ripped off. So I will continue the tradition of predicting the next game before the currently announced game is even released.

I believe that CA will follow the Evolution-Revolution technique that they have done since the start of the series, and that the next one will not include gunpowder. I think that they will either go for something else Asian such as China or make R2TW.

Based on logic, next would be Rome II... I'm still waiting for a complete version of Empire though....

Rome 2? Unlikely as EB 2 will still be better.

Also, 2 remakes in a row? Come on.

Rome 2 Total War is the next CA game! And what you talking about EB 2, EB is the mod, its not made by the Creative Assembly anyway!

Let's go back to glory of the Roman Empire again, Rome 2 is my choice.

I doubt the release of EB 2 will make much fuss on gaming sites in 2012, whereas the release of Rome 2 will be advertised on mars.

It's good to remember that the modding community does not represent the majority of TW games sales... <we are more a thorn in their foot that a threat to their income

They would have to be utterly insane not to remake Rome ASAP.

If I don't go to bed soon instead of reading pointless threads on hypothetical products several years down the road, I foresee a "Wife Kicking My Ass" Total War in my near future.

The battle mechanics of Shogun and the AI will be focused around the introduction of early gunpowder and the effect that had on traditional formations. It would make sense for them to make an expansion game similar to Barbarian Invasion, Viking Invasion, or Mongol Invasion, but with the focus of Rome Alexander, focusing on the Japanese invasion of Korea, which occurred directly after the period of Shogun and brought to prominence the 'Immortal Admiral Yi Sun Shin'. This would also allow them to stretch their naval engine and would gain wide appeal in Korea, where it's well-documented that popular video games, strategy especially, can become practically a national pastime.

Another option they could pursue if they were looking for Western appeal is to exaggerate the incursions of European powers operating in the region and present the possibility of Portugese or Spanish invasions of Japan.

Aside from that it seems logical that they will use the renovations to the siege mechanics to launch into a second Rome TW, but presumably not in as quick succession as the jump from Empire to Napoleon, due to the necessity of doing it justice.

Mmm i expect first Shogun 2, then a shift to a euro-centric game to appease the western audience, then back into Three Kingdoms, or a Mongol Golden Age game.

Edit: I don't expect a modern TW because there is a lot more development of game mechanics with gunpowder, tanks and aircraft. Aircraft alone would be astonishingly difficult to implement without finding a way to exploit it, an incredible amount of work to create, and not to mention, Creative Assembly is much more focused upon
focus now, and by that I mean they want to make games centered upon a particular culture or region, because it allows them to create more depth, is easier and faster to create and of course, is cheaper than say developing a revolutionary new engine for a modern warfare game that will probably sell just as many copies as Shogun 2, and maybe less.

I would somewhat agree. The Shogun sea battle engine thing will be based around using ships that are essentially floating castles with lots of archers and balistae to fight with. This mixed with early gunpowder would make a direct jump into Rome perhaps somewhat silly. However it wouldnt be impossible. It isnt that different,

Well, if they pass over making Rome 2 twice in a row I'd be very surprised!
