Not sure if it`s a question concerning SS itself or RR... I can`t recruit any units of Giltine`s Chosen though I have several of the required temples in my cities. The unit button appears in the recruiting menu but it is and stays gray - for several decades now...

Another similar problem is that I in fact can recruit Dievas' Guard but am unable to retrain them after battle.

These minor problems make my otherwise great Lithuanian campaign a bit mellow...

Did you install BGR with the 6.1 installer? Did you install the patch as directed by the SS download post and the FAQ?

The search button is your friend...

I tried the search button - but was overwhelmed by the sheer size of different (but mostly old) threads on similar questions.

About your questions: Yes I installed BGR in the version that comes with SS 6.1. As for the patch I am not 100% completely sure. Is the patch savegame compatible? Don`t you dare say no...

Just read through the topic on SS 6.1 again (http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...php?t=159996):

I have the "New (fun) historical battle by horton" - does this mean I actually have the patch installed?!

I would like it known that this is actually very much NOT the case. The search button is the most intimidating option, particularly for someone new, non-technical, or with a more specific problem. The search button is ONLY your friend if you know what to look for, which many people don't.

The Lithuanian temple units are available as soon as the game starts - provided one have build the proper level of temple, ofcourse.

The issue with units being recruitable, but always grayed out, is a well known issue, which is being asked often. Hence the 'Use the search' button.

The issue is due to an error in the version of Byg's Grim Reality mod that's included in SS 6.1. i
If that option was chosen when you installed the game, you will need to go HERE and download the data.zip file, from the end of the first post. This will require you to start a new campaign.

As the man said. No other requirements.

Yes you would get many search results on this topic because this question has been asked and answered hundreds of times previously

If you aren't getting recruitment turns being reduced, then you dont have the patch installed. And no, it's not savegame compatible I'm sorry to say.

Maybe it's the war council thing? Think you gotta have a family member that is a member of the war council (faction leader is always a member, try putting him into a settlement that can recruit those units) to recruit the best units available.

Thanks for the tip - I`ll try that!

( I`m pretty sure I have the patch installed for all the named changes (f.e. "Novgorod", "Seljuk", Hortons battle) appear in my game...)

@Caesar Clivus: Sorry but I haven`t seen the wood for all the trees there and thought it would be ok to post a new thread on this behalf. Please don`t kick me mighty admin...

Quoting myself I just tried - doesn`t work but I have two possible reasons in suspicion:

    a) When I started my early campaign I set the turns to 0,5 years.
--> Now I'm in the 1170ies (with highly advanced military production tree) - maybe Giltine`s Chosen are meant to appear after 1200 something?

    b) My best general has "Full Recruitment Ability" meaning that he can recruit basic (peasent & militia) and advanced (knight & professional) units.
--> Doesn`t say anything about superior or religious troops...

This is quite possible, some units are available only after something is "discovered", like a new type of armour, to make things more historically accurate. Giltine's Chosen have pretty nice armour and maybe they become recruitable around 1300s.

Search is your friend, but it is one of those friends that you want to stop talking and leave you alone. Sometimes you have to pour through threads in order to find the answer. It is there. It's annoying when you get the response to a question: "I answered this on page four of a thread 3 months ago. Use search!".

You also have to make sure you completely understand the install instructions. Usually there are patches on top of patches.

More and more I`m getting the impression that my question is NOT one whose exact answer is out there millionfoldly. And if it were - please - you cannot seriously expect me to read through 50 different pages of found threads. And it also depends on your luck trying to find the right keywords. As from my position I am relatively new to SS and still learning the vocabulary!

It`s not as if I didn`t actively search for the answer. But everything I found that was supposed I already tried. - But I shouldn`t complain too much not to distract from my question - which drives me nuts by the way.

Just wait 260 turns and see if they become available after year 1300.

I remember posting a new topic in the main forum as being far more intimidating...

Reminding people that there is a search option along with the answer to the question tends to be the price I impose for my (hopefully helpful) responses.
The whole thing about giving someone a fish vs teaching them how to fish (or in this case, showing them were the fishing equipment is). The search button is a friend - patient, nonjugdmental, you can even hit without it hitting back... and it diligently brings back what you ask of it. Its a bit on the dumb side - but you get used to it.

In fact I am pretty pretty sure now that I've had the fix installed. (It`s in my download folder together with the main 6.0 files and the 6.1 patch)
--> Is there a way to be completely sure?

Once again: I DID use (my dear old friend the) search button.
But it didn`t solve my problems. If I had posted onto an old thread you would have said "Don`t reactivate old threads! Start a new one!"
--> Seriously is there any way to satisfy forum admins?

    NEW INFO:
Now I am 100% sure to have had the fix installed. I checked the fix files with the ones in my SS folders - they match! So it must definitely be somethin else...

What about the tip concerning blacksmiths? Maybe plate mail is required?!?
Lithuanian Noble Infantry and Noble Son Cavalry are also actually available but still greyed out...

Sorry for the "value of the search button discussion" in your topic - its not directed at you (at least my statement isnt)

Send caskets of red wine. Lots of it and good quality at that of course

The fix isn't savegame compatible so that might be an issue. Have you restarted your campaign?

    What about German beer instead?

Freshly installed MTW2 + Kingdoms, patched it to latest version, installed SS 6.0 (with RR/RC & BGR III), installed Patch to 6.1, installed fix for 6.1, started new campaign.
--> The only unusual thing I recall now is that I installed SSTC + its fix for SS 6.1 during the campaign. But not sure if it affects recruiting for it`s changes mainly concern battles. And it seemed to have no negative effects...
