    Default A couple of bugs.. or may be not

    I've noticed a couple of odd bugs with RS1.6..

    * During the middle of a battle a Phalanx unit instead of staying in a defnesive line decides to move backwards opening up the neighbour phalanx units to attack to their flanks. Its happened several times in my Macedon campaign.

    * Game crashes after you won a really hard fault battle or captured a city where the odds have been stacked severally against you. The only option around it atm is to just auto decide but thats really annoying as I always loose but if I play and win, I still loose!!!

    Any clues on how to fix either of those ?

    Indeed, it's really annoying. Happened three times already in my current Pontus campaing. Al three times when I was fighting for a city. Very strange. I've learned myself to always press quick-save before fighting city-battles.
    It looks bad in the newspapers and upsets civilians at their breakfast...

    The battle thing I have heard other mods with this problem and their solution is to wait 30 seconds before exiting the battle to help it not get over taxed and if that does not work then use auto_win attacker or defender (depending who you are) to make sure you win a battle you have already won before but crashed

    hey Charles...

    Thanks for the tip.. it worked .. wait 30-40 secs before making a decision after winning and it didnt crash. Well at least I was able to refine my tactics against the huge Ptolemy double phalanx third time around and this time without the major casulaties !

    Speaking of bugs, has anyone else come across the thing where you charge your general through your own phalanx (from behind) and the phalanx actually KILLS your general?

    that could be part of the problem as quick saves are really buggy just like auto save

    For the crashing thing when in accordance with city battles, I just create an extra save file. I save my game, usually named for the faction I am playing, right before battle then once I win I start a new save generally called "CTDAvoidance" or some such. Then decide what to do with the city (as I personally ALWAYS annihilate the populace being the evil bastard that I am). If it crashes I try again. If it does so again, I try another option (Enslavement if I can't kill them all). Usually works either way.

    The phalanx one might have something to do with guard mode. Try turning it off, this happened to me once.

    On the CTD; This also happened to me; Check if you get a message "Insufficient Video memory- could not load requested texture set" if you do; Always restart the computer; close all apps before starting the game.

    On the other hand IF.....

    A=Player Army
    B=Computer ARmy
    C=City

    CB
    BB A

    All B's arre attacking A when A is besieging C. A routs all three Armies and presses the relocate button (doesent matter if you relocate enslave or occupy) and CTD occurs; if so ; this is a generic RTW bug and cannot be fixed. The only possible solution I know is that; You DONT besiege the city. That way the armys attack A; A beats the crap out of them (no survivors) and captures the city

    That happens in RTR as far as I know. Never experienced it in Vanilla though

    Its RTW thing.I don't think any mod can introduce such things.The modability of the game isn't so great as to have anyone be able to do that without editing the .exe file

    I think it's because when you charge a phalanx, your charge bonus is thrown back at you. When your elephants trampled your troops, they are thrown on the ground, and all, but they take no damage. I believe it is the same thing with the phalanx, you're still getting hit, except this time this not causing 0 damage. Probably something overlooked by CA.

    I find that the easiest solution to me is, fight the battle, and if on a crash and i won the battle, i use force diplomacy on reload to give the city to me, seeing as i already won the battle and thus should own the city
