    Default Eastern Kingdoms future poll

Ok, in the XC team we have been talking lately of what to do with the EK. EK idea is pretty good, but it was originally conceived for XGM and is a bit outdated now; Suppanut works on traits has made it improve more and more, but now the same trait game makes it harder and harder to contain, specially with a range of cultures as wide as Noth African, Nubian, Blemmyae, Lybian, Aramean, Bithynian, Caucasian, and Indostanic.

FOr Suppa, managing all this correctly is becoming hard, mostly when some nasty surprises are coming from them (cannot say more, but they will include some more people in Asia). So i though that, at least, separate the African zones and leave the "Eastern Kingdoms" as Asian-only was the best solution.

But happens to be that Numidia and Nubia and also Garamata were very active in our time period, and leaving them as simple rebels do not seem correct.

Also, many talk a while ago that Saba is somewhat isolated and pointless as a faction. I should add to this that, historically, the Red Sea zone was not as important in our time frame as Meroe Ethiopia, that has a much more powerful military and economy based on iron and gold production, not just commerce, or as Numidia, that was a major second-line player in the Punic Wars.

The team has discussed the subject and came with a bunch of possible solutions. WeŽd like you players to give your opinion on this

    First Option
Divide the Eastern Kingdoms Between "Eastern Kingdoms" and "African Kindgoms" using Saba slot to create the late. Saba-Ethiopia became non-platable and will keep all its current territories, plus Blemmya and Garamantes territories, the two Nubian and the two Numidian settlements (basically Saba plus all the African territories of the EK)

    Second Option
Keeo Saba playable (perhaps adding them more Ethiopian features as they have by this time period), and take out the African Settlements from EK anyways, leaving them rebel, and leaving Numidia and Nubia without faction.

    Third option
Leave things as they are now, but this would probably lead to implement Second Option sooner or later

    Fourth Option
To keep the number of playable factions, change Saba into an African Playable Faction: It would be Meroe Ethiopia or Numidia. Meroe Ethiopia will keep most of the current interest of Saba campaiign, plus centered in ONE continent. It was said that a Merowitic faction should have a very reduced roster, but i did not agree. I prepared a fast description of what a Meroe roster should be, compared with current arab roster.
As we still need to prevent Saba territories fron rebelling to Parthia, this late option includes (wichever faction is chosen to be represented) to give Sabaean current territories to the Eastern Kingdoms (wich seems logical as they have roots from both Africa and ASia and theyr current roster is heavily arabian)

    Saba

    Lvl 1
    Skirmishers
    Slingers

    Lvl 2
    Red Sea Axemen
    Desert Light Cavalry

    Lvl 3
    Archers
    Spearmen
    Desert Heavy Cavalry
    Chariot Archers

    Lvl 4
    Temple Guards
    Camel Archers
    War Elephants

    *********************************************************************

    Ethiopia

    Lvl 1
    Nubian Spearmen
    (perhaps another Lybian skirmisher unit)

    Lvl 2
    Nubian Cavalry
Blemmye Warriors (Desert Warriors toned to lvl 2)
Blemmye Raiders (Desert ligth cavalry much like that of Saba)

    Lvl 3
    Nubian Archers
    Ethiopian Axemen
Meroe Infantry (Spear, long shield, and mail, professional standing army of the urban kings)
Blemmyae Cavalry (Desert Heavy cavalry much like that of Saba)
Chariot Archers (Historically supported for Ethiopia, unlike Saba that have them from fluff)
    Forest Elephants

    Lvl 4
    Guard Axemen
Master Hunters (Super Elite version of Nubian Spearmen, with superb stalking abilities much like old Vanilla Arcani)
Blemmyae Camelry (Camel Archers much like that of Saba)
Bush Elephants (cataphract elephants reskinned to appear unarmoured, better attack than any elephant, high number of hitpoints, but armor on normal elephant level, not cataphract)

Saba is kind of an interesting faction to play, but tbh it feels more like a provincial campaign. So I voted for 'Change Saba into African Kingdoms non-playable faction'. I'm not sure if it's necessary to split EK into Eastern Kingdoms and African Kingdoms though, the two halves are so isolated that it doesn't really matter. I would say allocate the faction slot to some other more deserving faction... no idea which but I wouldn't mind seeing Ethiopia either. Numidia also feels more like a provincial campaign.

Problem with EK is not closeness or isolation of the settlemens; its about assigning a too wide and varied ethnics to a single faction, plus the imposibility of implement certain changes that Suppa is planning to make the EK more active as an NPF

Bah, I like the Saba campaign. I'd say take the fourth option, and if possible make a Sabean Provincial Campaign?

I say that because I feel a Meroe campaign would be very interesting, but I do like the Sabeans

I like the sound of the 4th option, but can't decide enough to vote. For the rosters, are you saying it would be a mix of the two?

I would vote for AK as I able to made Moroe, Numidia, and Saba provincial campaign from AK with their seperated set of traits and units as if they are full function factions. This could be done by create switch on-off within traits and ancillaries system as well as EDB.

I also able to create Maurya, Tocharian, and Naabatea provincial campaign from EK by the same system as above.

I like Suppanut's proposal, it would be wonderful to get 3 provincial campaigns out of AK and 3 campaigns out of EK. But isn't there a limit to the number of provincial campaigns ?

    AFAIK no.
The main problem is maintaining those, which is quite difficult given our small team size

This seems as good a place to ask as any. What's the best way to learn about modding? I'm interested in helping out. Also, more provincial campaigns is always a welcome prospect.

I've voted for Meroe. Some change is good, however I like the Sabeans as they are now. So to loose a playable faction, would be a sad thing to do in my opinion.

It would be either meroe or numidia but this is planned after the release of XC4 as it's taking long enough without anymore revolutions...
