    Default Land bridges to Britain

This has probably been suggested before and may be impossible to implement. Would it be possible to create a land bridge from Britain to France and Britain to Ireland? It would make playing as the Brits alot more fun since as it is now you never have to worry about attacks from factions on the mainland. You can also take Ireland at your leisure. It would be nice to have to race to take ireland before the Scots and also have to worry about your southern flank while at war with them. I like playing as Britain but I always end up making rules for myself to make the game more difficult.

It seems you forget how big the English Channel is

You know i think Django333 might have something here, this would be great for british players so that you had a whole 'trifecta' of war between scotland ireland and france. The maelstrom which would be the british isles would be very fun to see !

That said i am concerned that it might make england "the new HRE" and get steamrolled by france and scotland, supplemented by ireland. I dont think the england faction could survive.

Its true that the channel is huge but still, for the sake of gameplay, it could be good.

Same can be said for the islands in the mediterranean - could help with the AIs problem of amassing stacks on "castle islands". That beeing said I'd buy it for the mediterranean and between Ireland and England but not so much for England to France. But in for "one", in for all... and we already have island hopping in Scandinavia.

From my experience (with 6.2) the AI English don't seem to fare well. If the Scots grab York, the English have a hard enough time trying to push north. In each game I've played so far, the Scots and Irish ally against the English, making a Scotish invasion against Ireland unlikely (which didn't that happen in history? ). In my Papal game, the Irish have gone on a rampage, though in most cases, they just stay content on Ireland.

It is routine for the Scots as well to send naval invasions to I believe Bruges and expand on the European mainland rather than push the English off the Isles. If the Scots were inclined to go after the Irish, I don't think they'd need a landbridge to do so, just some reprogramming in the AI files.

Question. Has France ever taken Caen? I've never seen them take it. If they can't take it, or bother to focus enough attention against it, what odds would they have even if they had a land bridge? The French focus most of their efforts in the mainland anyway where there are plenty of rebels to go after.

Question. Would land bridges improve the AI English? They don't typically do a whole lot, though they have the Scots to deal with on an island that doesn't have too many rebels.

From a player perspective, it might help with moving agents around without needing ships, but whether it'd be an improvement, I don't think it'd matter.

my patriotism is telling me this is a bad idea. Seeing as historically invading britain has been trialled and failed many a time i think adding a bridge would only remove the gameplay/ role playing connotations of mounting an invasion on the isles. Personally i'd like to see bridges removed altogether but obviously this would cause controversy

Bridges exist, i think, because crossing a small body of water didn`t need "great" ships and locally most times you`d find a ferry system that could assure the crossing of an army without the need for a navy.

its an army, w/o a navy they would be more then noticed by english troops, even a fisherman, that could warn england about it

by french navy, that can't happen, as its a lot faster....

    its simply not logical..

from main isles to irish ones, it's possible trough this idea of ferry, since the space is A LOT smaller

is it possible to implement a system where land bridges are only useable if you or an ally control the regions either side of the bridge? it would make sense since if a ferry had word of any 'enemy' force coming they would just head out to sea. it would add a bit more strategy to it. but let me guess, cant be done?

Correct. Landbridges are only a couple of pixels on one of the map files. There is no other info connected to them.

    Guys,

Under no situation should there be a landbridge between mainland Europe and the British Isles, the last invasion by a miltiary power was off course 1066. The shortest distance is 22 miles, that has been enough water to keep Napoleon and Adolf Hitler at bay. Likewise with the Irish Sea, the only power to invade Ireland was England. Landbridges should exist such as the Gibraltar strait, Messana Strait and the Dardanelles

While on the subject. I would love to see the Island hopping in Scandinavia REMOVED completely.
Also, being an island has always been one of Britains main advantages, it should not be altered.
    lol
