Just wondering whether it'd be possible to have my PC start up automatically at, say, 8AM AND begin playing music in iTunes aswell?
I know the first shouldn't be too hard to do, but is the second possible?

You'd have to make it so that when it powers up... it automatically logs you in, (removing the password to your account SHOULD do this),
then, if you download VTuner Pro - you could set it so that it starts up automatically,
OR,
create a macro, which runs on start-up, and clicks your Itunes, or selects a playlist - you can record your own macros with a lot of software out there.. just Google them (:
I use my (Linux) computer as an alarm clock. I just keep it on all night, and use a cron job. If you just leave it on, or if you can get it to boot up automatically, you should be able to use Task Scheduler or something to run a program when you want it. Then you just have to have a program that will play music when you start it, maybe a music player that takes a filename on the command line.
As it turns out it's the automatically booting my PC that's harder to do. Apparently my BIOS doesn't support a scheduled boot.
Oh well, my gripe with leaving it in sleep modus was that my case fans are pretty loud and they don't slow down automatically. But I guess I could manually lower them every evening, it's just a switch on the back of the case anyway.
Something like Vista shutdown timer has a wake timer. I use the shutdown timer, and have never toyed with the wake, but it should work...
