    Default Greek Firethrowers

    Hi
I was wondering why it is not possible to recruit Fire throwers for the Eastern Roman Empire? I would like it if you could recruit them again and make it possible for any faction to hire them as mercenaries in the region near Constantinople. I really do miss them a lot.

The ERE can recruit Fire Throwers in Constantinople if it has a Royal City Hall or better.

Ok if you play the Renaissance Campaign, the ERE in the Grand Campaign have all the city halls in Constantinople. I looked through each one and none of them let the ERE recruit them. This is the up to date version 2.0 and I have not changed the original files in anyway. Then I looked at older versions of this mod and they did allow the ERE to recruit them just as you said from the city halls. I have also looked at the other campaigns like 970 etc. in version 2.0 and they also did not allow the ERE to recruit them. I hope this will help you investigate the problem and see why the ERE lost their Fire throwers in this new version. I would really like it if you could up load a small patch that can add them. Thanks for all you hard work. This is one of the best mods I’ve ever played for this game!

I have been looking into this matter a little further. I believe this is a simple fix. I think you need to edit one of the descr files to add the Greek Fire Throwers. This will tell the computer where to put them in the Grand Campaign. For example the descr mercenaries file lets you tell the computer what regions can recruit certain mercenaries. Hope this helps in fixing the problem!

I am not too sure how old this patch is but I just put on 2.01. Again the Eastern Roman Empire is unable to recruit Fire Throwers. I hope that you are looking into this problem and can have a quick patch out soon that can address this small problem so people can enjoy the Eastern Roman Empire with Fire Throwers again. I can’t wait to start an Eastern Roman Campaign and burn my way to world domination!

I feel the same way about many left out Janissary units and Kataphracts for Byzantium.
Democracy is beautiful in theory; in practice it is a fallacy.

The Janissaries were archers and later musketeers. They didn't have special divisions that used swords and halbards.

The Kataphracts disappear during the 13th century because the Eastern Roman Empire stopped using them at this time because they were slow and outdated.

Hello I am wondering when the next patch will come out that will add the fire throwers back. I have looked for a few weeks and have not found anything of when it will be available to download. Thank you for reading this post and giving any info on it.

It'll be out soon. He just released a closed beta test for it right before the TWC crashed.

btw, mercenary greek fire units is a big no-no. The empire did everything it could to keep the exact formula a secret, even when similar products were used by the saracens. might as well give England mercenary Elelphant units in York.

Ok I agree but maybe if a faction takes over Constantinople they can learn the secret and be able to recruit them. I'd like it if others can recruit them too.
