First time problem
I screwed up my RS mod, so I had to reinstall my RTW.
I went thru the regular process, but instead of actually unistalling it, the setup simply didnt appear.
So, I decided to manually remove everything.
After I did that, I began to reinstall, with no problem. But, the original RTW doesnt play. When I looked at the install, there are the Data, Docs, Miles, and saves folders, and the gamespy logo, but there is no Rome.exe, or an uninstall. I have tried several times to make it work.
On my last attempt, I said yes to creating a desktop shortcut, but all it did was create the default use-program icon, and still Rome will not play.
Is there anyone who knows how to fix this, or has run into a similar problem?

Re: First time problem
+Delete everything, again, and that includes the appdata folder if you have Vista or 7.
Clean the registry using regedit or a good registry cleaner.
Reboot.
Now, try it.

Re: First time problem
If you installed RS over your RTW install then RTW won't work. All the instructions I have ever seen for RS clearly state that fact.
What you should do is simply take a copy of yoyur working RTW install and apply mods to the copy. If they are mod-foldered then they can share the same install. However, to be safe I;ve always kept the RTW mods in thier own game folder.

Re: First time problem
All of my mods get their own folder, just so I can always copy the original folder should something go wrong.
I will start trying to find more things to delete that are related to RTW, and reinstall, because I was pretty sure I got it all.
Where can I find that registry cleaner?

www.eusing.com has Eusing Free Registry Cleaner. The price is right and it works.

Re: First time problem
I went thru with the regedit and cleaned everything out that I could find related to RTW, and now whenever I put the disc in to install, it just gives me the option to unistall.
What should I do?

Re: First time problem
If you are using Vista or 7 and you installed to the 'c:\program files (x86)' fiolder you may have some entries oin the virtual store or appdata. You can get the start of the path by either running %appdata% in Vista or putting the same in the 'search for program and files' in 7. In both cases you will need to make sure that your folder options are set to 'show hidden folders and files'.

Re: First time problem
Just out of curiousity, would having the unit_info and the descr units (among a few other folders/files) in a seperate, totally unrelated folder cause this problem?
Also, with the AppData folder, should I delete ALL of the folders with that name? Because it seems I have several.

Re: First time problem
The RTW data will be in it's own folder in the Appdata. You should only remove the relevant entries - as you've not shown us the folders you mean it's only a best guess. This is the same answer that I would give to your first question - I don't know where the 'unrelated folder' is and also if it's got a similar parent folder somewhere in the folder path.
Although I have Windows 7 I installed RTW into my own program files folder and not the 'c:\program files (x86)' one, therefore my install does not use the 'appdata' folder. I think many peoplerecommend that this approach be taken for all games. I certainly do - even Steam is not in the 'c:\program files (x86)' folder - I leave my Office programs in there.

Re: First time problem
I deleted everything related to the game.
The 'unrelated folder' was sitting on my desktop, right next to my internet launch icon.
The appdata folder in my users folder was the one in need of deleting, since after I did that, I was able to reinstall the game.
Im already back to playing Roma Surrectum.
Thank you for putting up with this little episode!
