vassals can turn on you?
I made Hungary as a vassal when it had one province left and then gave them a castle nearby. Ten or fifteen turns later they turned on me. I thought a vassal was like a bff or something. Was it because of its own diplomacy with other factions or the fact that I gave them a military province?

A vassal ingame is someone you sieged, pillaged and attacked with overwhelming force until he resigns to your command because he can't fight anymore or his judgment is that he will be defeated by you. In order to prevent that he will agree to become a client kingdom. So basicly its making friends by hitting them with a club repeatably - not bff material.Originally Posted by Wismer

If vassal is islamic or catholic, and is called a ceusade or a jihad against you, of course the ally relation dont matter.

You get a big chunk of money for at least the first few rounds after a faction becomes your vassal. You get half of whatever they have in the bank after each turn. In my current Polish campaign I vassalised Lithuania. The first round I got nearly 30k. For three or four rounds after that I got around 10k each turn. After that it was an average of around 5k per turn. I've almost beaten Both Russian factions into submission.Once I have them under my thumb I'll have more money than I can spend and I'll focus on wiping Islam from the face of the earth.

I was hoping they would give me a nice buffer from the polish and I'm trying to only acquire territory the byzantines had when they were at their peak. Dorky, I know.
Now they've forced my hand to finish them off. Is there a way to make them rebel provinces? Other than killing all the generals?

The problem is that vassals still benefit from the AI money cheat, getting loads of cash each turn, depending on difficulty. But vassals donate all money in their treasury over a certain amount to their overlords. So in effect getting vassals is one of the best cheats out there!
The only solution is to either conquer them, or simply cease-fire and try to ally (knowing they will backstab you eventually).
