    Default Windowed mode

    Hello guy,

    I didn't know where to put this question so I just made a new thread.
    I would like to pay in windowed mode so that I can surf the internet while the turns are taking. But I can't seem to make it work. I used the search function and found some topics, but none of what I tried had any succes.
    So they say add windowed=true in your Stainless_Steel_Kingdoms cfg file. I did that, but it didn't work. So I put in windowed=1, but that didn't work either. Then I tried windowed = true, and after that windowed = 1. But to no avail.
    Can anyone explain exactely to me how I should be doing this? Step by step. I'm on windows 7 btw.

    What's your windows screen resolution? It needs to be greater than the M2TW one in order to play windowed.

    You mean the size of my computerscreen right? (English is not my native language, so sometimes I understand things the wrong way) Wel my screenresolution is 1920x1080.

    Yeah, that's what I ment. That ought to be more than enough - as long as the screen resolution you've set in the game is less than that.
    Try placing windowed=1 in medieval2.preferences.cfg as well, and just to make sure, make a shortcut to the start file (i.e.: C:\Games\Medieval II Total War\mods\Stainless_Steel_6\Stainless_Steel_Kingdoms.cfg) and add -w to the end of the target. (making it C:\Games\Medieval II Total War\mods\Stainless_Steel_6\Stainless_Steel_Kingdoms.cfg -w)

    You mean like this? ("C:\Program Files\SEGA2\Medieval II Total War\mods\Stainless_Steel_6\Stainless_Steel_Kingdoms.cfg" -w) Because I can't put the -w before the ".
    I tried that, but it doesn't work. All I want is the possibility to surf the internet while the turns are being taken, but everytime I alt-tab out, the proces stops until I alt-tab back in the game. Or is that not even possible in windowed mode?

    Besides what is the right code anyway? Is it:
    windowed=1 or
    windowed = 1 or
    windowed=true or
    windowed = true?

    This is what I have in my medieval2.preference:
    [video]
    widescreen=1
    windowed=1
    [game]
    allusers=1

    And this is the end of what I have in my Stainless_Steel_Kingdoms:
    [video]
    show_banners = 1
    grass_distance = 9000
    movies = false
    widescreen = 1
    windowed = 1

    Is that the way it is supposed to be?

    windowed = true
    is the same as
    windowed = 1
    I have that last entry in all my 5 current mod folders and no entry at all in the medieval2 preferences file and it works as well.

    1. something on your system prevents windowed mode and medieval defaults back into fullscreen
    2. your changes to the .cfg files are reversed by the system due to uac or writeprotection
    (oh, and make sure that you don't accidently safe as ... .cfg.txt - might happen as Win7 hides the file extension and notepad likes to add that .txt extension from what I remember)
    3. Your medieval resolution is as big as your normal desktop resolution

    I recommend the following setup btw:
    [video]
    widescreen=true
    windowed=true
    borderless_window=true
    (because of the borderless, not the true - its all ones and zeros in the end)

    Thank you very much all of you. I actually decided to reinstal SS because it was an install from back in november last year I hadn't played since. I reinstalled it in a different folder, not in program files, and all seems to work better now.
    Now back to playing France. I have cities to conquer.
