    Default Greeks of Massilia

After looking at your preview of your latest nice-looking game RTR VII, I was wondering if you have considered the greeks of Massilia (Emporion included) as a playable faction. My intrest comes from looking at the FOE manual, about the unplayable minifaction put together as auotonomous poleis. it seems they were independet for a very long time and kind of stepped into Rome´s and Carthage´s buissnes.

Apart from that i think it will spice things up a bit in the west to include Massilia, apart from the (MANY) gallic and iberian (barbarian) factions you´ve added in that area. (five if you count Lustani as I´ve heard rumors of).

If you still are in a phase of development were you can reconsider factions, do that!

And ofcourse i got to thank you for your great work

Point is that they didn't have a great influence outside their area, and we had to choose because of the faction slot's limits of the RTW engine. Therefore we chose to solve this problem with a super faction, the Autonomos Poleis.

The phase of choosing the factions is over, atm we're creating the ones that we picked out, like the Getai that were previewed a few weeks ago.

The greek colony at Massilia had a profound impact on the Celtic world, actually, but that's before our time frame and concerned commerce rather than conquest.

We do have one free slot, for other modders to use to create a new faction for, though getting the coding right is difficult, if I look at what Pat has done in the EDB, and what Muizer has done for the governor traits, and doing the GFX, and a whole lot of other things. But at the moment, we are, as M said, making the factions, not choosing them

More like "semi-free" actually... You have to know what you're doing if you use it

They had too little an impact outside their region to warrant being a playable faction....although maybe a few extra greek rebels around the area could serve to represent a stronger presence there, I dont think they should be playable.

Well the thing is that I have felt the northeastern coast as a no-mansland, beacuse they are no playable factions there. I mean the coast have always been more populated than the inland, due to the sea were the trade are. Therefore I thought Massilia as good canidate. A much more important faction for the game intead of for example Belgae, its a different side of the same coin in gaul. Then another thought is that there will be 5 barbarian factionens in the west, and all the civilized greek ones in Greece in the east, 5 ones?. It will get very divided, so that you always meet the same type of culture. getai, noricum andillyria is good, mixing it up a bit. But there is not such a thing in the west. making Massilia would not make it historically inaccurate either?

Btw, the Belgae have been removed, so we only have the Aedui, the Arverni, the Celtiberi and the Lusitani (there are a few differences between these last two, and obviously big differences between them and the previous two).

We didn't just remove them but turned them into Lusitania, just to make sure that's clear...

Massilia has been allocated both greek and indo-european cultures to represent the mixture. While its not possible to create an entirely new faction, we hope that making both cultures available will help mix things up a bit

It's our fault for using an outdated map for the 1st Preview But we settled on what we have, and are all satisfied with the balance of factions, even if some variety still needs to be added (we have concentrated mostly on new Greek and some Illyrian units until now. But the rest will be done.).
