iPod Touch screen messed up- should I try to replace it myself?
So, my iPod Touch seems to have been dropped one too many times and it now has these blank gray pixels that seem to spread into lines across my screen. I attached a few pictures (pardon the poor quality, taken by my phone).
My iPod is a 1st Generation (purchased in 2007) so I have no warranty left.
I can't afford a $100 screen repair, I might as well get a new iPod if I paid that much. And I'd rather not have big gray lines across my screen. Another option I found is a DIY type repair, using a screen part like this and following a video like this one.
I would love to be able to fix this with a $20 repair, but I'm not sure I'm willing to chance completely breaking my iPod to do it. What would you guys suggest?

Its an apple product so if you would try and replace the screen by yourself it will probably self destruct or something.
YOU MUST BUY A NEW ONE.

I'd say take it to an Apple store for the $100 repair. But if you think that's too much you might as well fiddle around and break it and then you have to get a new one.

Another guide I found:
http://www.portatronics.com/guide/iP...-Repair-Guide/
I don't think it will explode or anything, but it looks like a pretty hard repair.

Re: iPod Touch screen messed up- should I try to replace it myself?
The area of blank pixels keeps growing. Now besides those lines there's about a square cm of the screen that is mostly blotted out. And also a glow of the wrong color around that (like a yellowish glow on a white page). Also visible when the iPod is turned off now when looked at in the right light.
As it was I might just have left it, but if it keeps getting worse I may have to do something about it.
Other suggestions?

Get the 4g when it comes out!
Do you live in the US? I thought someone like wallmart was doing v cheap 3gs at the moment to clear stock.
Alternatively escape apples clutches and get an android phone- I have heard the htc desire is supposed to he great.
If you spend money repairing the screen the likelyhood is that something else will stop working in a few months time and then you will be pissed.

I have an iPod Touch, not an iPhone. I can't pay for the monthly data fee on the iPhone. But you have a good point about something else maybe breaking later.
