    Default South America and Asia

I've been asking me why they dont added south america and Asia (china, japan...) at all in ETW, the spanish colonies and brazil (which would be part of portugal, making portugal a playable major nation), china and japan, would add more content and challenge to the game.

CA warned about it and gave a reason ,lazyness or ran out of time to implement so much land?

Wrong damn forum (lol) but damn, I think most of you of NTW had Played ETW, so the question is still valid.

Well thank you for your post, but I believe this is abundantly obvious. Of course everyone wants to have a bigger map

Well very easy - lack of focus. ETW is about european nations fighting against each other including their colonies. And important eras of warfare were only India, North America and the Caribbean sea. Exactly the areas they have implanted.

And TW-games have a campaign map and are based on history (so it´s no game like Age of Empires were you can fight with japanese against french knights on a random battlemap). That means that the wars, faction expansion and the whole gameplay should be reasonable and realistic.

ETW is about the extent and the hostilities between the powers of Europe during the 18-19th centuries (correct me if I'm wrong) and colonialism.

If they were gonna add Japan they'd need China, if they were gonna add China they'd need every nation that borders China and to balance them all the nations that border them too - to do anything less would either lead to Japan just sitting there with nothing to do but tech up rediculously and unhistorially quickly due to no nearby enemies, or an OP China due to no enemies that could focus on it's navy rather than an OP army and conquer Japan - thus leading to the same situation as before but with China, or would lead to a China that would be overwhelmed by it's bordering nations due to them having no enemies other than China - and so leading them to be destroyed completely more often than not most likely - which would be horribly inaccurate.

So in other words, if they were to add Asia, they would need to add the vast majority of Asia, which would be a vast amount of work.

Not only that, but if they were to add Asia it would make as much sense to include SA and Africa, which would only compound the problem.

They could and should have added SA (as in South America) by itself however, perhaps with south africa - at least as a trade theatre.

The general consensus is that the theatres feature in Empire doesn't work anyway in the sense that the AI can't really handle operations in India, Europe and America properly (that for instance it rarely or never will send reinforcements to India from Europe).

It also screws timescales - while historically it took an army weeks to march from say Paris to Munich it could take the best part of a year to sail from Europe to India.

Napoleon's wars were fought on a timescale of days and weeks - even the great 1812 campaign which took him from Paris to Moscow and back again was over in just six months.

If you used the NTW timescale and the Empire map it would take 20, 30 or 40 turns to sail an army around Africa to India.

And if you used the Empire timescale it would feel completely un-Napoleonic as he'd probably die of old age before reaching Moscow.

It also creates huge balance problems in that for instance Spain would start off with a vast empire in the Americas and would end up steamrollering its way across the whole map rather than the being the sick man of Europe it actually was.

So much as I'd love a true global TW game it will need a next generation AI and new graphics engine.

Really wish they'd included Egypt, Syria and North Africa though - which would have been quite feasible with the NTW engine.

Well, if I, Belisarius, the Black Prince, and you all agree on something, I really don't think there can be any further discussion.

If you are talking about japan they were in a self imposed state of isolation (during empire times) from anyone else and didnt really come out untill the 1900's. It would be historically inacurate. Even though i would like to take over the world as the japanese and the whole game is basically about you re-writing history.
