    Default Competition Total War

Well, in the last couple of years the electronic sport has become very popular worldwide, it somehow stopped being a nerd hobby and became an actual sport- with sponsors, money awards, international tournaments etc.

I thought of making something different with Rome. A competition mod. Abandon the single-player, the historical accuracy, campaign map and focus on the multiplayer part. Lets be honest, *insert mod name here* : Total War sucks on multiplayer. Yes, it may be fun sometimes but no mod was meant to be played online.
Think about it- Rome offers things that aren't available on other games- the sight of thousands on soldiers, the strategy depth, the usage of real-time tactics. It just needs balancing.
Organisations such as Clanbase and the like can be contacted to open an international\european\whatever ladders, leagues, tournaments and even lan parties with money prizes if it becomes a success.

I'm just throwing it in the air since I have absolutely no clue on making mods, skinning, coding etc, just playing them if anyone who does have the ability to make this thing a reality is more than welcome to steal my ideas besides, it shouldn't be too much work.

    * It should work on the paper-scissors-rock system(faction and unit wise), for balance, so we can focus on strategy instead of unit strengths. For example-
Rome has really reliable heavy infantry, but are hugely outnumbered compared to the disordered Barbarians, against the slow moving phalanx formation of the Greeks.
    * 3 to 5 factions at most, in which every one of them has it's advantages and disadvantages.
    * Every faction has a basic lineup of a few infantry types(heavy\light), cavalry, missile, spears. Every unit should have a number of colors for the same unit in case two players chose the same faction.
    * Better multiplayer code if possible(first target- fix the horrible replay section!)

    More ideas are welcomed

you are aware of something called "hardcoding", right?

    otherwise, good luck.
I haz a culler!! (really, who gives a darn? its totally meaningless, and it doesn't really accurately reflect who I am)

What are you talking about? There is absolutely nothing to stop this mod from working. In fact, it's one of the best ideas for a mod i've seen in a long time. The only thing that probably won't be possible is the last suggestion, but as for all the others, they are easy

Good luck! If I get any time I might have a go at making some of the changes you suggested and seeing how well it works, and then I'll send the files to you. I would recommend that you learn your'e way around the text files, becuase they are by far the most important parts of a mod like this, and are very easy to change manually and tweak with a bit of knowledge and common sense. I recommend that you look at some of the various tutorials on this website. Remember, if you yourself cannot help with actual physical modding, nobody is likely to want to have to do all of the work for someone else 's idea.

    So get modding!

I'd love to, but as I said- I know nothing about these things. The best thing I can offer is assemble a team, build a website and some public relations, although I'd love to help modding. Where do I start?

    Thanks for your support anyhow

I don't know much about multiplayer, and my comment was only meant for that one aspect (and yes, I did try to edit the message-my apologies for lack of clarity)

however, I myself cannot script-all my skills are in modelling and skinning. but if I could script effectively, I would help-such a thing would be revolutionary, as you say.

Yeah, too bad we're over-flooded with modellers and skinners, there's no room for you...

actually, there is a dearth of modellers and skinners. however, since your mod is about gameplay, what you need is a script writer.

if you do indeed wan skins retouched, then I can do that; its certainly easier than making them from scratch

You could always help with skinning some of the colour variations as were suggested above. I wouldn't bother with trying to make it look any better then vanilla though, seen as all you want is functionality for multiplayer.

I've just had quite a good idea: if you make the mod compatible with Alexander, you could make it possible to have armies from Alexander in the mod. For examle we could very easily replace the Macedonia in ordinary Rome with Alexander's Macedonia from the expansion. Like wise with Persia replacing Parthia, or possibly Armenia or Pontus if you want to keep Parthia.

Anyway, to start with, I recommend you look on the "Tools Tutorials And Resources" section on the Rome Workshop section of this forum, and then look at the tutorials on text editing and scripting. The scripting section is actually irrelevant considering that scripting normally concerns the scripts people add to the campaign So it's just text editing you need to look at.
