Well, in the last couple of years the electronic sport has become very popular worldwide, it somehow stopped being a nerd hobby and became an actual sport- with sponsors, money awards, international tournaments etc.
I thought of making something different with Rome. A competition mod. Abandon the single-player, the historical accuracy, campaign map and focus on the multiplayer part. Lets be honest, *insert mod name here* : Total War sucks on multiplayer. Yes, it may be fun sometimes but no mod was meant to be played online.
Think about it- Rome offers things that aren't available on other games- the sight of thousands on soldiers, the strategy depth, the usage of real-time tactics. It just needs balancing.
Organisations such as Clanbase and the like can be contacted to open an international\european\whatever ladders, leagues, tournaments and even lan parties with money prizes if it becomes a success.
I'm just throwing it in the air since I have absolutely no clue on making mods, skinning, coding etc, just playing themif anyone who does have the ability to make this thing a reality is more than welcome to steal my ideas
besides, it shouldn't be too much work.
* It should work on the paper-scissors-rock system(faction and unit wise), for balance, so we can focus on strategy instead of unit strengths. For example-
Rome has really reliable heavy infantry, but are hugely outnumbered compared to the disordered Barbarians, against the slow moving phalanx formation of the Greeks.
* 3 to 5 factions at most, in which every one of them has it's advantages and disadvantages.
* Every faction has a basic lineup of a few infantry types(heavy\light), cavalry, missile, spears. Every unit should have a number of colors for the same unit in case two players chose the same faction.
* Better multiplayer code if possible(first target- fix the horrible replay section!)
More ideas are welcomed![]()
