Default Tom's Hardware reviews new Ubuntu version

Very positive, unlike their review of the last version (9.10). They compare it to the last LTS version, 8.04, of two years ago. They note that it was the first version where wireless worked out of the box on all their machines; it has drastically better filesystem performance than 8.04 (due to ext4 vs. ext3); it has some nice new or improved default programs (he particularly likes Gwibber for social networking); and has no notable disadvantages compared to other Linux distributions he's tried.

I would like a easy way for it to work on my pc, the 4670m according to the forums is bad, and installing it almost fried my gpu. (yes in winows it happens too when there is no driver installed)

I have never had a video card issue with any of the modern Linux distros, and you dont really need a video driver in the Windows sense of the word. Unless you are trying to do some gaming or something else that requires 3D. If all you are doing is web and email and office type stuff its fine.

Did you try running off the live CD?

I did, when it was the 9 version (don't know the rest of the number) I actually still use it when I'm going to do bank transactions.

The new 10.4LTS I didn't download it yet and believe I'm itching to do it.

The problem is that I use a laptop, with the lack of drivers for the gpu it has overheated several times because of it (the days of the 10.3 drivers and the difficulty to find the laptop drvers, not the desktop ones) and using the 9 distro I got the great screen real state of the 640*480.

I have digged in the ubuntu forums and well found out that the 4600 series is a bad gpu for that, might be looking at the wrong threads, and still have to find the linux drivers from amd, those are well hidden

AMD fixed its drivers pages, now I can actually get the 10.5 10.3 linux drivers, thats good! (yes they put the incorrect number on top of the page)

    Downloading the 10.4 right now

If you guys have any tips about it I'm all ears

BTW is there any news about haiku?
