Just so you know, everyone, Belisarius spent his own money to buy these copies of The Peninsular Campaign so I think some thanks is owed to him for that.

"For what it’s worth: it’s never too late to be whoever you want to be. I hope you live a life you’re proud of, and if you find that you’re not, I hope you have the strength to start all over again."

Ancient World That's Totally Moddable: Total War

    1. Ever since joining this forum every other post has been about the lack of moddability for ETW and NTW.
    2. Everybody wants RTW2. Or STW2. This pleases both!
    3. There will be an entire world map, and since it's moddable, it'll be the last TW game ever.
    4. No melee bug possible. Well technically possible, but a melee bug in the ancient world would be a super fail.
    5. Even people who love DLC's will be getting them, because everything falls under the idea of Ancient World.
    6. Prince of Macedon will play this game and won't claim that he's bad at it.
    7. Nobody will complain about the reload speeds, historical accuracy, etc. (/sarcasm)
    8. Mods.
    9. CA will be able to sell this game in pieces. More pieces more profit!
    10. Noob boxes will be back!!!

    China: Total War

    1. The Technology that the chinese created over it's lush history can allow a change battles from the irregular peasant armies who armed with copper weapons, to the Imperial chinese armies that are using cannons, and guns.
    2. the multiple dynasties: can allow a different governmental system over the span of a campaign, allowing the player to defend the old government, or pass the heavenly mandate to a new emperor. This is perfect for players who want to create a perfect government.
    3. Political and military alliances: especially during the 3 kingdoms, alliances was a crucial tool among warlords and clans in their path for glory allowing the player to have many enemies, or many allies.
    4. Constant Warfare, because of 2-3, war is always constant. allowing the player to be fighting at all time.
    5. Strategy and Tactics, due to China's Rich Strategic Tradition, you can have various Generals who played a role in history. Especially during the Imperial armies, you can form various formations to defeat your enemies. An example would be the Turtle Formation in the movie Red Cliff. the Chinese employed Cavalry, Infantry units with VARIOUS melee weapons, and various Range units. Also the average army was in the hundred of thousands! allowing large scale battle that are full of eye candy.
    6. What If situations, because of China's vast powers, if Creative assembly wants to take a risk. they can create a campaign which the Imperial armies of China attacks the Roman Empire, Japan, Mongolia. Etc.
    7. Various Countries, Mongolia, Japan, Vietnam, Korea, Thailand, and other asian states were enemies of china, allowing late-stage campaign to be against other nations if the player united china under imperial rule.
    8. Naval Warfare, China had some naval warfare on the Yang Sing river, and some parts in the ocean. this would be even more awesome if we can have simultaneous naval and land battles.
    9. Special Agents, in China there was various Assassins, Scholars, and other influential people who won wars and defeated armies with a single blow, or idea.
    10. Sun Tzu, one of the greatest tactician and strategist was born in china, by making this game we are honoring one of the greatest man in the Military field.

I like this alot, especially if it was done on the "3 Kingdoms"! Rome 2 TW would also be nice.

    Rome II TotalWar

    1. Rome I Totalwar has still a lot of fans, but needs a redesign in arts and bytes.
    2. Rome is a worldwide best known term and the best term for ancient gameplay.
    3. Rome I Totalwar was a selling success.
    4. Rome Totalwar would be better, but this title is used.
    5. There are a lot of "Rome" related content in other media (TV series, books, films, etc.).
    6. Romes history (300 B.C. - 500) is a appropriate field for a complete game engine (all
relevant ancient unit types, sea battles, invasions over sea, war elephants, siege equipment,
war machines, Greek fire, temporary forts, exciting cultures and religions and economic
    development).
    7. Rome is even a more fascinating conception than single ancient heros (Alexander, Hannibal,
Caesar): Unrelenting, proud, powerful, warlike, the most successfull empire in European history.
    8. Campaigns of single heros could be add-ons.
    9. Rome has an educational touch - good for parents. (What could European civilization be
    without Rome?).
    10. Ancient Rome is still existent (in ruins and there are a lot of tourists, but the stones are
    real)!

    Empire 2: Total War!

I know Empire isn't the most populat of Total Wars and in fact it's not one of my favourites either, but the post Napoleonic era has great potential in my opinion:

    1. 19th century showed huge leaps in technology. Gamers would start battling with muskets of the Napoleonic era but end up developing machine guns, gas and possibly if strwetched to the eve of World War 1, CA could even include the modern battleships of the time which would be a harsh distinction from the wooden vessels of Empire and Napoleon Total Wars. Such military technological development will give the campaign and battles a more dynamic experience.

    2. Following Napoleon's defeat, the Great Powers agreed to collaborate with one another via what became known as the Congress System. THis was a new era of diplomacy that if implemented correctly would give gamers a very versatlie campaign experience. Multi-faction diplomacy with the ability to negotiate not only peace, alliances and even war but determine their outcome and establish objectives between allies.

    3. THe industrial revolution would kick in with full effect during this period. Railway construction becomes of prime importance as these allow armies to be transported throughout the map with greater speed than ever before, launching lightninig strikes against enemies that could cripple whole factions! All the technological and industrial development would have even greater impacts on the growing working class than ever before and hence...

    4. Revolutions will become more sporadic and uncontrollable. Industrial development will become so closely tied with victory on the field that players will have to tempt fate and invest in reasearch. On the one hand they may be left behind and slaughtered on the field. On the other hand they will encounter more violent revolutions than ever before. This would be historically accurate as the conservative crackdown following the Napoleonic Wars led many frsutrated liberals to revolt against their masters. Revolutions could spread so that the whole of Europe could go up in flames. Moreover revolutions could be made more dynamic as conservative victories force liberals to become more violent and radical in demands. Voluntary concessions could in turn ease the growing unrest. Hence you could choose between stubborn

    5. Periodic instability was a pain in the neck for many a great power. The 1848 revolutions that rocked Western Europe historically owe more to agricultural and industrial failure than to actual conservative crackdown of governments. With such crises emerging every 10 years, this period could have the re-introduction of "natural" disasters such as these, similiar to the natural calamities of Rome Total War.

    6. This time included the American Civil War as well the scramble for Africa and the Boxer revolution in China as well as the wars of independence in the South American colonies. Hence this could be a game where the map could be more extensive with not only a European theatre but also an American, Asian and African one as well. This might make the game huge but the more features the merrier in my opinion! If it's too big it could be broken down in camapigns like in Napoleon.

    7. Germany and Italy where formed during this time. Hence an Empire 2: Total War could have the introduction of non-player controlled territorial changes where not only revolutions take place but possibly even national movements that could result in the unification of small nations and possible even the breakdown of multi-national empires like Austria.

    8. For battles - well... 20 units won't cut it anymore, especially with a maximum of 160 soldiers per infantry regiment. Even though this proposal is valid for every total war game, the buil dup to the Great War only makes this claim more valid. Hence this game would feature larger units, with possibly a more "general" approach. By this I mean army corps organisation on the field, field orders with specific battlaions in the regiment then taking their own initiviative (though always always under the player's final control) to give the fights the more epid feel that the struggles of Balaclava and Magenta of this time only deserve!

    9. This was also the era of the Anti-Corn Law League in Britian and the Zollverein in Prussia. In practise this meant the rise of free trade between the nations which would (and must!) invite CA to rework trade so that it is not only the negotiation of trade treaties between the states but will also involve in-depth negotiation of trade terms between states, with the ability to form exclusive economic unions that lay the foundations for further political union.

    10. The 19th century was a time of great leaders as well: Lincoln, Metternich, Cavour, Bismarck, Napoleon III. The governments could hence reflect such essential figures in European history with the rise of these rulers ushering in eras bestowing specific advantages and disadvantages to that nation. Of course the game must remain gamer-centred and hence even with these rulers in charge, it remains up to the player to decide how to actually rule and manage the nation. In the end the beauty of Total War is the ability to take charge and alter history!

I can really go on and on! These are the top ten off the top of my head!

    Rome 2: Total War

    1. This has been requested numerous times

    2. It's about time they made a sequel

    3. Considering the Ancient Era was extremely turbulent and rife with conflict, it's a good focus for actualy total war, as it was engulfed in this historically.

    4. There is a myriad of possibilities for this, considering the scope of the conflict and the nations involved.

    5. During this time, great tactical leaders emerged (Julius Caesar, etc.)

    6. The graphical and hopefully gameplay improvements would add-on to one of the greatest Total War games ever made (R:TW)

    7. It's rather obvious this sequel is coming anyway.

    8. We could finally re-enact the Battle of Thermopylae.

    9. The numerous units and cultures that clashed historically could be represented in the game.

    10. The cultural clashes would be extremely interesting (fierce Carthaginian elephants vs. nomadic tribesmen of Central Europe)

    1618: Total War

    1. Many playable factions
    2. The possibility to have a ton of historical battles, from Nordlingen to White Mountain
    3. Areas of conflict range all the way from Portugal (rebelling against spanish control in the 1640's) to Poland (Sweden had a separate war going on in that area).
    4. Wide range of units were used, including Hussars, Musketeers, and pikemen
    5. Possibility for new siege gameplay with use of trenches and artillery emplacements surrounding a city
    6. Dunkirkers and other naval conflict could be included
    7. Foreign infantry such as British men in German service and Germans in Swedish service
    8. Networks of alliances and protectorates with the Holy Roman Empire and Spain being allied against Sweden and some German protectorates.
    9. Religious reconciliation through the Edict of Restitution and the Peace of Westphalia
    10. New options for diplomacy based on recent victories in war

    Spanish American Wars of Independence.

July 1808, London, The Duke of Wellington is to travel with Francisco de Miranda to Caracas in Venezuala to begin a War of Liberation from the Spanish Empire. The secret British plan is to forge a New British Empire in South America, to replace the empire lost in North America...

But 100,000 of Napoleon's troops have crossed the Pyrenees, seized Pamplona, San Sebastian and Barcelona.. The British must reinforce their ally Portugal before the whole Peninsula is lost to Napoleon.

That very same British Army, meant for an adventure in South America fighting the Spanish, must now depart for Corunna in Northern Spain to AID the Spanish and Portugese in combatting Napoleon. The Peninsular War is about to begin... but another very different war and history may have occurred instead...

    Consider:

1: Factions: Spain, France (Bourbon and Republican factions) , Britain, USA (aiding Liberation), Mexico, Buenos Aires, Granada, Guetamala, Puerto Rico, Chile, Peru, and the Philippines (Asia). Plus Native Indian tribes... remember the American Campaign of Medieval 2.. The Mayans, Astecs, Tarascans and Tlaxcalan . their grandsons now come to battle.
2: Naval and Land battles, as the Superpowers do battle.
3: Varying landscapes, jungle, high prairie, high mountains, huge rivers to cross, a different challenge.
4: Pseudo-historical.. nearly happened, but didn't, so no historical limits, historical figures play a part, but the story is new and creative, imagination is the limit. What could have been...
5: Local Rebellions, adventurers, criminals, royalty, republicans, foreign mercenary armies.
6: Decisions made thousands of miles away in London, Madrid, Washington and Madrid have direct consequences.. play out a Campaign with total freedom, but also choose to play an "If" campaign, where decisions made by the player, have consequences and "tipping points" in-game, send the player in a direction he didn't realise ...
7: Theatre of Espionage. The Powers vie for Control of the Continent, anything goes.. much more Diplomatic options.
8: Foreign Armies mutiny and set up "Kingdoms". Non-rigid storyline where certainty even within national groups can fracture and ally with enemies, suddenly... linked to Spies and Diplomacy. Maybe a British General may mutiny and begin a "Kingdom" in the Andes, necessitating a new British Army to be sent to exert control...
9: Totally different non-European experience. Americas.. North, Central, South American and Asian (Spanish Philippines). Different peoples, histories, techs, foods, abilities, problems to overcome...
10: Combine the best of Empire, Napoleon, and Medieval 2... and DMUC (Mods). Excite the Total War community with a new and unexpected experience.

I liked the China one. I'd buy that!

Sol: Total War (A sci-fi setting describing the advent of faster than light space travel and futuristic combat. With other human colonies rather than aliens to maintain the little realism it has)
I originally meant this as a joke, then realized it would work fairly well if you don't mind writing, instead of rewriting, history.

    1. Contemporary Sci-Fi fits with the TW system of large clustered units firing relatively inaccurate weapons across open terrain. (Star Wars, Warhammer 40k) The small armies of TW games make for an accurately sized strike force in a sci fi setting.)

    2. Epic space battles. Navies replace armies as the major arm of the military in sci-fi. With a naval combat system already in place, this wouldn't be too difficult. Beautiful backgrounds of planets and nebulae would be cool as well.

    3. New capabilities in combat add spice to battles. Orbital deployment, airstrikes, mechanized warfare, air units and a variety of original weapons could characterize combat.

    4. Possibilities for a variety of cultures and playable factions (even in a humans-only setting). Different planets or factions might have vastly different philosophies and governments ranging from collectives to monarchies to republics.

    5. Potential for a variety of tactical abilities. One faction might lean on small strike craft and infantry, another on balanced navies and armies yet another on large capital ships and air superiority. No more homogeneous lines of infantry and cavalry. The drastically differing capabilities of various types of ships alone (fighters vs battleships) could force players to use different strategies in every battle.

    6. Multiplayer space battles. 'nuff said.

    7. Possibilities for incredibly long and entertaining campaigns. Each planet could be different enough to keep land battles from getting old. Flexible tactical choices would also increase replayability.

    8. Orbital Bombardments are pretty.

    9. Moral choices get a lot more difficult with the option to raze entire planets, enslave their people, (a la Rome TW) use chemical/biological/nuclear warfare, use people as batteries to support your war machine, etc.

    10. By keeping the setting ambiguous we attract hordes of Star Wars, Star Trek, and other sci-fi nerds for real Total War players to destroy in multiplayer.

    Era :Total war

This game might be very hard to make, but it smells really fishy The game will start from Roman ages till Napoleon time...

    1. AI will be much more smarter.
    2. More and more provinces, feel that you need to take every inch of lands from enemy (villages, small towns).
    3. Advance your empire from ancient times till Enlightment age.
    4. More advanced politics system, weak in ancient, strong in late period.
    5. More advanced profit's system, make lots trade agreements, rob the merchants and ect.
    6. Bigger world (america's, europe, asia).
    7. More factions, choose to be as indian, roman or mighty japan!
    8. Naval battles! See how roman's defeat carthagians, or vice versa! Or destroy infidels in battle of Lepanto!
    9. Better family trees, resurrect your coutry by family bonds.
    10. More events - rainy year makes farming better, drought decreases popularity, profit's...
    11. If you are not skilled to use phalanx, choose time period (roman era, medieval era, enlightment age).
    12. Enormous troop tree, specific country's troops specific name's. (Lietuvos muškietininkai, Pancerny kazokai, ect.)
13(?) After some time somwhere in your lands grows a little village, makin little profit, and if you improve it, you even could grow it in a new city!
    14. Smaller campaigns, maybe expansions about specific time of history, or about specific land's war (america's colonization, japan wars, northern war).
    15. Mods. The game must be moddable, because mods are game's future!

Mmmmm..... Roman's rule America with muskets? Gaul knights? Pontus imperia? Interesting, interesting....

P.S. sorry for such English language, I'm just learning it, I'm from Lithuania....

    Rome II Total War.

There will be 2 types of gameplay, First: Roleplay/Strategy with difrent start dates. Second: Sandbox Campaign with difrent start dates.

Start your carrier as a young man from a roman noble family, your goal is to rise as high as you can, Consul or even make yourself Emperor. To gain political power, you start serving in the army, take comand of a cohort, follow a Legion into the field and take orders from your commander, with each success you gain: fame, power and advancement, even money from plunder that you can bribe senators, make them vote your way and even vote with them, once you become senator yourself. Your actions in the field and in the senate will gain or loose you popularity with the people and senators, your actions therefore has consequences. and once your Consul you will have the power to make civil war, defeat the armies of the senate and become Emperor, or defend against it. There will be friends and rivals seeking power, each with their qualities and downsides, vote and bribe to advance the men that you want in power, for your own reasons or for the good of the Republic, giving power to some of these men can have terrible consequences for Rome, public revolts or military disasters.
As you advance, will govern cities, provinces and lead armies, take orders from the senate but also vote and bribe make Rome give you the objectives you want.

Once you have become Emperor, you control all, take Rome in whatever direction you want, assign capable Good Generals to Expand your empire, and take to the field your self to expand, gain wealth, popularity and Glory!

    Campaign.

Add more culture, deep variety of music for each faction that suits the period, more variety of buildings, government systems, sparta should have it's very own unique government system, and the need for a large military force at all times in sparta or risk Helot revolt. Make each city look difrent from each other, along with unique buildings, difrent walls and defences. Add historical passes that can be defended, and strong historical forts. Add a lot of historical people

Armies should be limited by population

Add more Logistic, there should really be supply lines now, over land and sea, and the ability to cut them, foraging, steal food from towns and farms, should have a negative effect on the population, and you risk groups rising up against you, adding more troubles to your situation.

    Battle.

Armies in the field will now be bigger, 20 unit card but each unit card represent a cohort 480 men, when you click on a unit card, 6 more windows will open above, each representing a centuria of 80 men, you can assign battle formation for each cohort: line, square, oblique left/right, column, vedge, testudo etc...
So now you will get full Legion sice armies if the player is useing huge unit sice, either way each player will get the true organisation and flexability of a legion. Each army can only have 10 Legionary unit cards, the other 10 will be, cavlry, skirmishes, siege engines(altough these could be in a seperate window attached to the army) and allied units for early period, and auxiliary units for later period.
Soldiers will now make battle hymns, you will hear impressive march sound, as thousands march in order, when they charge all troops will scream out makeing a lot of noise to frighten the enemy, once troops clash witch you should also hear the clash of shield and weapons, you will hear the sound of battle, specially as you zoom in, blood should be added.

Add Push ability for professioal troops and unites trained for it like hoplites, the Push ability will be effective against troops in close order and those that are packed together, men can now be crushed to death and be pushed against objects, walls, mountain walls, carts wagons, just like what happend to Boudica's army, pushed into the sea to drown or atleast they will flee and pused of of cliffs. In hoplite warfare the object of pushing will be to break the formation of other hoplites and close order unites, the effect should be a big drop in morale, causing them to flee. Against more open order troops (Gauls and other barbarians) it will not have any effect unless they are packed together.

All factions should fight in formations used by them in history and tactics benefitting their troops. Add Allied armies coming to your aid in battle like in medieval where you can also give that army orders.

Thats some of my ideas for Rome II Total War.
