Default Elves v high armour units

been a while since i played this, checked out the plantir guide and realised the elf units have no AP units. whats the best way to take down heavily armoured units (dwarves, ologs, balrogs) as the elves?

Ballistas. Don't leave home without them.

Against Dwarves, I outmaneuver them to the most favorable terrain possible, tire them out, force them to attack uphill, and hit their flanks and rear as they do.

You are going to lose a lot of Elves, but these two tips can turn a shure defeat into victory--especially the ballistas.

Do like me and "cheat" a little. Give AP only to the general's bodyguards
    Because:

    1) Beornings sucks
    2) Ballistas slow you way down
    3) Ents are rare
    And 4) It's fun

Here is how you fight heavily-armored foes: the same way you fight everything else! Archers!! When your army is rightfully 70% elven archers, few armies can withstand the rain of steel. I have defeated heavily armored armies that far outnumbered me because I made them chase me across the map, peppering them with arrows the whole way. If they close in on you, chase them away with forest-walking infantry and rinse/repeat.

Elves may not be the most varied race to play, but it is awesome knowing that almost every battle will result in "Heroic Victory".

Best advice in this thread thus far. As the elves, any army is easily beatable if you pump enough arrows into it.

    Clearly has his priorities straight.

New Middle Earth Enhanced mod (also included in RR/RC) includes Elvish Smiths of Eregion (via a guild building) that have AP warhammers.

And as said above, try to melee opponents only in trees - you get major terrain bonuses.

Just have armies of 100% archers... unless you are facing mumakil (in which case you need ballistas/catapults) I've taken down armies of dwarves composed only of elite troops that outnumbered me 2 to 1 without a single casualty because I was able to micro manage. Eldar Archers absolutely rape... put your faith in their power

They've also been included in 2.0.

Elves don't need AP units. A, it doesn't make sense for them as they base their weapons on speed and skill. B, once you start turning out AP units for Elves you might as well just not play the game. You'll win on turn two.

Dwarvens suks against elven arcers, chose a battlefield were your arcers can easily witdraw one unit is raning other fire his arows in dwarvens flangs or back, the remanings kill with cavalry. If there are to many of them concentrate your fire on some units and make hole in their army then divide them in two.Against trolls concentrate your fire on one unit then charge in him Hevy cavalry even Olog-Hay fly like light infantry.Against Mumakils use fire arrows then kill them with cavalry cince they loosed control.Against BALROGS are efective only Imladris Pikemen and Eregion Smiths. The best way is to wait until an army of goblins is near Moria, kill them and reinforcements from castle. Then just enter and Balrogs will not appear!

    Use Cavalry against Dwarves.

They have literally no chance. They're all infantry based armies.(tough luck if they have an army of catapults)

Also use Generals for Cavalry, for they'll replenish the few troops you lose after each battle.

Yep Dwarves also have a penalty vs cavalry in melee.

    Play Frome submod!!!
Lorien and Silvan both have an ap unit and High elven....well they are about the same as vanilla TATW

Dwarves do have some units with bonuses against cavalry though so you can't get too confident in cavalry.
