Default a FAQ for a new guy

    Hi everyone...

I was looking around a bit the pictures of this mod, and i must say it looks really good. I would like to see a bit more about the mod, perhaps something in the sorts of a FAQ? I'm sorry if such a thread exists, but i was wondering if someone could answer this kind of questions, just to see what this mod is about

    1. Which factions are in the mod?
    2. What's the time-span of the mod?
    3. Are there any reforms besides the march of time?
    4. What are the special charateristics of the mod?
    5. What's the map the mod uses?

thanks a lot for the answers

Welcome to the wonderful world of SPQR
First look at the sticky here: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=220659
Second, if I can answer some of your questions...

1.) SPQR is specifically designed to play Rome, meaning campaigns and everything is balanced for this, and playing any other faction will be a really simple. But if you like Rome its awesome!
2.) This mod starts during the second punic war in 215bc while Hannibal is wreaking havoc in mainland Italy and uses 4 turns per year script and I don't know about anyone who's made it to the end, but I think it's somewhere around 260AD
3.) March of time has had its requirements changed which can be read about in the FAQ section in the link i posted above. Besides this, no other reforms.
4.) Epic style battles and enemies doesn't rout as easily as in other mods, so battles last longer. I'ld say the battles is the best thing with this mod together with the legion sheet if you follow the houserules a little bit.
5.) Don't know who made it, but it's not 100% accurate, a few mountains and stuff are displaced, but overall it's pretty nice.

I have to admit I like EB and RS aswell, they have better history and immersive details to them, but the battles are too good in SPQR

You'll be fighting their armies, and potentially conquer the city. This represents becoming Emperor and all your provinces combined is now your empire, and no longer a republic. Congratulations!

so if i can conquer rome before the marian reforms i can just skip those reforms and move straight onto the imperial reforms?

No, you'll have an empire, but still have the Polybian era troops. You still need the Marian reforms to get both the late republican and imperial troops.

Also unless you have a lot of troops or a awesome general. SPQR will wipe out your pre marian army

DAMN. building huge cities in every carthaginian city seems like a tedious task.

Well when you are holding all of Italy Gaul Spain and the former Carthage areas you have a lot of manpower and money to use against the senate.
The Greeks have a loot of troops too. My spyes have seen more than 30 000 this far. Seems like landing there will be costly. Will wait with that untill i have trigged the reforms tho.

Alot of their lands will already have Royal Palaces built by Carthage, so you don't have to build anything else in those. But when you have captured all these lands you'll have a steady economy, so shouldn't be a problem to have the right palaces built in every city.

For me only two Carthaginian towns had Royal Palaces. But its easy to get a town upp to the 24 000 pepole needed by sending pesants from cities with large populations. The lack of liking from the pepole in those cities is another thing. Have to build all the bulidings you can get to keep the public order on a ok level. Even holding games evry day wont be enouf in some cases it seems.

Large garrisons and good governors is a must in some provinces.
Also, you should destroy all non-roman buildings, since they add dissent in the population of that town.

Allready maxed the garrisons and destroyed all non roman buildings.... Thats basic stuff and the first thing i do when i take over a town. Still even with that there is the penalty for distance to my capital culure penalty and unrest penalty. Put it all together and it will assure your headaces.
