Icon2 Naval Supremacy, a naval overhaul mod for NTW. 14th June, version 1.1.3 released including new shipborne Marine model for all factions (european model only)

    Welcome to Naval Supremacy

The purpose of this mod is to give a more historical experience regarding naval warfare in the Napoleon Total War game. The following highlights are planned:

Add historical ships to main seafaring nations of the “Napoleonic” age. (1.0)
Change the hull colours of ships loosely based on historical sources (1.0)
    Realistic naval gunnery (1.0)
Realistic sailing characteristics and combat inspired by Rebellion’s shipyard ETW mod (1.1)
    Overhaul vanilla ship units (1.1)
Visual appearance of other ship aspects
Custom text for unit info cards (partly 1.0+1.1)
Custom starting navies for included factions in Campaign of the Coalition (1.1.1)
    Marine units (1.1.3)

All ships are as historical correctly implemented as possible within the limits CA provides regarding ship model and gun placement. (Ref 1,2,3,4,5). All ships are recruitable from both dock yards and trading ports.
The following naval guns are included and used by the ships listed above. Ranges in meters are from Ref. 6 (with some assumptions for not listed gun sizes).

    4 pounder, 500
    6 pounder, 666
    8 pounder, 700
    9 pounder, 716
    12 pounder, 733
    18 pounder, 615
    24 pounder, 650
    32 pounder, 633
    36 pounder, 620
    24 pounder carronade, 360
    28 pounder carronade, 370
    30 pounder carronade, 375
    32 pounder carronade, 380
    36 pounder carronade, 395
    48 pounder carronade, 430
    68 pounder carronade, 500

All projectile damage model changed and Grape shots contains 3x3 smaller balls (Ref. 6). The smaller balls increase by size and damage model with increasing gun size.

Ship colours are changed based on various historical references but some contradicts each other, so the included are my best interpretation of the sources.
I have tried to reflect the wear on the paint (ship hull) with better results on some factions. At that period and later tar was used to protect the wood so a “black’ish” tone is used to represent tar coating.

    Other changes:
Recruitment capacity in trading ports incremented by 1 for level 2 and 3.

Customized startpos.esf Naval Supremacy customized Startpos:

Two customized startpos are included. One for the Napoleon European campaign and one for the Coalition campaign. Starting navies edited to include NS units and have the following composition (little diff. between the two startpos.):

    Horatio Nelsons fleet comprises
    HMS Victory (106), flag ship
    HMS Royal Sovereign (106)
    HMS Temerraire (98)
    HMS Dreadnought (98)
    HMS Tonnant (80)
    HMS Bellerophon (74)

    French main fleet comprises:
    Océan (122), flag ship
    Achille (74)
    Redoutable (74)
    Frégate (38)
    Frégate (38)
    Frégate (32)

    Spanish main fleet comprises:
    Santissima Trinidad (140), flag ship
    Santa Ana (106)
    Rayo (106)
    San Juan Nepomuceno (74)
    San Joaquín (74)
    Fragata (32)

All other starting fleets edited to match the Naval Supremacy units. Although the Ottomans maintain their starting Galleys.

    Other inclusions:

Napoleon Bonaparte’s portrait fixed in the Coalition campaign startpos.
Correct portraits included for Pierre-Charles Villeneuve and Federico Gravina.

The two startpos.esf are attached this post.

Download the mod from Mediafire or Depositfiles

    Installation:
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Use included unit_pack_compatibility_project_napoleon_v2_4_DEKNS.pack (delete previous version) file for proper text. It is based on UPC2.4hotfix so you don’t need that if playing with other mods as well. The updates for this mod should be included in the next UPC release.

The mod is mod packed so just place the NS1.1.3.pack file and the text file referenced above in your “data” folder and the user.script.txt file in your “scripts” folder. Alternatively add the following entry to your current script file:

    mod “NS1.1.3.pack”;

And you are good to go.

    Startpos info (optional):
If you want to play the Coalition campaign or Napoleon campaign in Europe I've made customized Startpos.esf files for both campaigns that includes edited starting navies and other corrections. More info listed above.

To play backup your current startpos.esf and extract the attached startpos.esf to the applicable folder:

WinXP path for Coalition campaign: C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\napoleon total war\data\campaigns\mp_eur_napoleon

WinXP path for Napoleon campaign: C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\napoleon total war\data\campaigns\eur_napoleon

Start the game from Steam with NS1.1.3.pack activated in the script.

The mod should be compatible with most other non-naval mods and work for both custom battle and campaign. The only thing that overwrites vanilla NTW are the ship hull textures.

!!Naval Supremacy startpos.esf will not work without the NS1.1.3.pack!!

And at last just Remember to have only one text file in the “data” folder.

    • Unit limits and armament are roughly based on references in post#1.
    • Generic ships are available to all factions not listed above.

    • Furthermore the ship sailing speed, hull strength and combat stats are changed (inspired by Bethencourt’s Rebellion’s Shipyard ETW mod) so from now on you will experience naval battles that last longer, and ships more often surrender before they sink or engulf in flames. Ships can take a lot of punishment now and your goal is to get the enemy ships to surrender either by routing them or boarding them.

    • French 74 and 80 ship of line have slightly better sailing qualities and slightly stronger hulls than other factions 74 and 80 ships of line.

    • Captured ships available to Britain are cheaper and quicker (5-turns versus 8-turns) to recruit (refurbish) than newer ships but upkeep is slightly higher.

    • Named ships (from version 1.0) are quicker to recruit than "classed" ships. Example is HMS Ville de Paris (106) 7-turns and British 1st rate ship of line (106) is 10-turns.

    • Recruitment cost slightly changed.

    • Royal Navy crews have slightly higher reload stats and morale. Spanish and Ottoman crews have slightly lower accuracy, reload stats and morale. Rest of the factions have more or less baseline stats.

    • Ottoman hull texture corrected and Spanish naming corrected on request.

    Version 1.1.1 Customized Startpos.esf:

A Naval Supremacy customized startpos.esf added for both Coalition campaign and Napoleon European campaign.
Starting navies edited (differ slightly between startpos'):

    Horatio Nelsons fleet comprises:
    HMS Victory (106), flag ship
    HMS Royal Sovereign (106)
    HMS Temerraire (98)
    HMS Dreadnought (98)
    HMS Tonnant (80)
    HMS Bellerophon (74)

    French main fleet comprises:
    Océan (122), flag ship
    Achille (74)
    Redoutable (74)
    Frégate (38)
    Frégate (38)
    Frégate (32)

    Spanish main fleet comprises:
    Santissima Trinidad (140), flag ship
    Santa Ana (106)
    Rayo (106)
    San Juan Nepomuceno (74)
    San Joaquín (74)
    Fragata (32)

All other starting fleets edited to match the Naval Supremacy units. Although the Ottomans maintain their starting Galleys.

Napoleon Bonaparte’s portrait fixed in the Coalition campaign startpos.
Correct portraits included for Pierre-Charles Villeneuve and Federico Gravina.

    Bug fix:
British and Danish Frigate (32) armament edited to give correct maximum range.

    Version 1.1.2 additions:

    Version 1.1.2

    • Custom made French shipborne marines added to France and replaces vanilla marines. Screenshots are included in first post.
    • Custom made French Ouvriers militaires de la marine (Marine land unit) added to France and classed as elite infantry. Available in custom battle and campaign play as well. They can be recruited in “horses” regions and an explanation of horses regions is posted on the AUM thread http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=336939 post#1.
    • Screenshots of Ouvriers militaires de la marine are included in the first post.

    Naval texture changes:

    • British and Russian hull texture slightly changed adding more blacker and green hull colour.
    • Faction colours on hull sides, stern panels etc. changed to black (all factions). Screenshot included in first post.
    • The transition between deck planks made more visible and deck planks a bit lighter (due to all the scrubbing).

    Version 1.1.3 addition:
Added commonly uniformed type of shipborne marines for most factions, and stats differentiating between the major seafaring nations.

    Hi Toon

Yes but you will have to choose between hull textures, otherwise no interferences. This mod use custom projectiles, guns etc.

    Go ahead and include

    Thanks for the feedback

The .rar file contains the following:

    1. NS1.0.pack (mod file)
    2. unit_pack_compatibility_project_napoleon_v2_3_DEKNS.pack (text file)
    3. user.script.txt (mod activating script)

Copy 1+2 to your "data" folder, on WinXP that is normally: C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\napoleon total war\data (if you have any other text file in your data folder you will have remove it from that folder, otherwise you might not get the proper text)

Then copy 3 to your "script" folder, on WinXP that is normally: C:\Documents and Settings\asc\Application Data\The Creative Assembly\Napoleon\scripts (backup you current user.script.txt if applicable)

Thereafter start NTW from steam and the units are available in custom battle and European campaign. If you wan't to play a campaign as one of the minor countries (Portugal, Batavian Republic etc.) you will need husserlTW's NTF mod here: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=1536

    Hope that explains the basics

    Best regards

Ok many thanks...getting closer, 1 & 2 easy and done, 3...a little tricky. I have one txt file in scripts folder, Preferences, do i back that one up or just add yours with that.

    Getting there m8

    Quick thing,

"Navíos" is the plural of "Navío" So, say, the Santísima Trinidad was a "ship", not a "ships".

Excellent effort, Its great to finally see a balance to the billions of LAND units in all the mods!

    one issue:
FRENCH SHIPS WEREN'T BLACK AND WHITE.
I'd love to be proved wrong on the matter, but ive done alot of research on the issue, and the most conclusive evidence i've found for a certain colour scheme is that the didn't have one! at least till after Napoleon. all those pictures you see of the sleek black and white ships of the line belong to Louis Napoleon's era - circa 1850.
If it were up to me i'd have the smaller French vessels a mix of the vanilla texture, rednblack, blacknwhite and yellownblack. for the larger ships of the line i'd make them yellow and black, but perhaps a duller scheme to that of the Royal Navy, who used the Nelson Checker during this period.

It shouldn't overwrite the preferences file, and you need that (it stores your settings when cahnging options in game etc) Just copy the user script file to the scripts folder and it will work

Thanks for the feedback I know that most nations didn't have regular colours for ship hulls but I don't think it is possible to have more than one colour scheme per faction. So it's like "a rock and a hard place"

Default Re: Naval Supremacy, a naval overhaul mod for NTW. 2nd June, baseline version 1.1 released

Baseline version 1.1 is released. Now a total of 225 different naval units replaces vanilla units. Naval battle stats overhauled for better realism etc.

See post#2 for change log and post#1 for download of file. probably not savegame compatible.

    cheers

I dont think thats the case necessarily, cus i remember mods from ETW having different class ships in the same faction have certain colour schemes. furthermore if France were to have one specific colour scheme it SHOULDN'T be black and white. If you find out how to do the different ship-different colour thingo, could you please make british Frigates black and white, as was their fashion in this period. I'm sorry i don't have source material in front of me but if anyone was to look it up i'm sure they'd find it to be the case.
    cheers!

This is awesome Lutland, I'm impressed! Will you add changes to all the faction crews also?

With this mod, the only thing missing in NTW All In One Mod, is a proper gunboat design, with a larger crew that just 31

Thanks for the feedback and yes hope to include some changes to faction crews but haven't scoped it yet. Agree that crew needs to be increased and will investigate it further.
